Been to a good gig lately/Concerts [Merged]

I saw them at Golden Plains. As a big Pavement fan back in the day I was very disappointed with the first 20 minutes or so of the set. Sloppy and disinterested. I was standing there thinking to myself, "perhaps you guys shouldn't have reformed if you're not into it". However, they tightened up after that and played some great songs. Not a bad set.

Apparently they got lost on the way there which probably had something to do with the start.

Having said that, Dinosaur Jr, which followed them were in ripping form and had the best mix of the weekend - they sounded awesome.

I was at GP as well PTFC and had very silmilar thoughts regarding Pavement. They were ok without being great. I was a bit disappointed.

Dinosaur Junior however were amazing. They were the highlight of the weekend for me.

I have had a great month. While Pavement were not on totally on top of their game, I have been a able to see them, Dinosaur Junior and The Pixies. The Pixies were at Festival Hall which was a bit of a shame, but they were great. Two encores and Dolittle in its entirety. It was a great night.

So to be able to see these 3 bands in a month has been a real privilege and a bit ironic considering how much I hang it on baby boomers who love comeback bands.

Hehe...I was at the Pixies as well. The Monday night gig. Really enjoyed it. Doolittle + its B-sides + a second encore of tracks from Surfer Rosa and Come on Pilgrim = one happy camper. I had the same thought....it has been a month of comeback bands.

As for my highlights at Golden Plains, they would have to be Dinosaur Jr and Calexico (both incredibly good sets).

Off to see Henry Wagons, Justin Townes Earle and Old Crow Medicine Show at the Mossvale Music Festival tomorrow.

That is a quality line up. Some real country bliss.

Forgot to post this last week and he's gone now, but checked out Newton Faulkner at the ANU. Cracking show and a real entertainer. Great voice and good on the acoustic.

His cover of Bohemian Rhapsody is worth a look.

Are you serious? Give it a try mate.

Just joking mate. He sounds drunk compared to Freddie.

I don't like acoustic much but Faulkner's a good peformer.

Freddie will like that one. Where's Kerm? Miss Piggy would've been better with the falsetto part. :hihi

Was that the Boogie festival near Seymour PTFC?

If it was I have had strict instructions not to discuss it. Similar to Meredith circa 1995.

Nope, the Mossvale Music Festival in South Gippsland, near Leongatha.

Was an awesome afternoon. Great music, great crowd, great setting. One of the few kid-friendly shows out there (it went from 4-8pm).

Justin Townes Earle is playing shows in Melbourne and Geelong this Friday and Saturday, respectively. Well worth catching it if you have any country leanings.

PTFC

P.S. I was at Meredith in '95. My 21st birthday actually.

Ha. Thats funny, I would not be surprised if we had a drunken chat. They were good times.

Mossvale looks good, I have been looking for alternatives to the big festivals. Just too old I'm afraid.

I am planning to catch JTE this Saturday in Geelong. It should be great.

Saw Crowded House at the Apollo last Thursday night. Great show.

Neil Finn would have to be one of the great singer/song-writers of his generation. So many anthems. Star.

I was at the Espy last week and stumbled into a super new band called Lights on at Heathrow (not too sure about the name), but they were fantastic. They are playing at the central club in Richmond on the 3 of July. I will certainly be checking them out!

Kudos to brother Timothy also. Saturday Sun's a good song but strange video.
