Been to a good gig lately/Concerts [Merged]

Re: Been to a good gig lately? [Merged]

Holy *smile*! Where's my duffel coat?

Had a great gig at my own establishment last Saturday night. 3 boys from Melbourne who I've mentioned before - The Tim McMillan Band - were absolutely amazing. They play regularly in Melbourne and if you like guitar or just good music in general they're a must see IMO. They're back at my place on Sunday week so I'll try and get some footage and put it on youtube.

When they played The Corner Hotel many years ago it made for quite a show!

I saw them at the old Palace on their first ever tour here. I think it was after Dopes to Infinity had been released.

Saw Asher Treleavan at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Was seriously funny and frightening. Not the usual 'Aussie' brand of comedy, get along and see him if you get the chance.

Adam Hills, Axis of Awesome and Celia Pacquola were all entertaining.

Saw Metallica on Wednesday 15th Sept, at a packed out rod laver arena, awesome gig one of the best I've been to.

Saw Guns n Roses (well Axel, Dizzy and others) at 02 arena last night. Played a lot of Chinese Democracy rubbish but when he wants to - Welcome to the Jungle, Mr Brownstone, Sweet Child OM, Nov Rain, Paradise City amongst others it went off. Still has an amazing voice and was surprisingly engaging.

Saw the Dave Matthews Band at the Hollywood Bowl about a month ago, the best venue I have ever been in cut out of the Hollywood Hills, with 18,000 others. Gig went for over 3 hours... easily the best concert I have ever experienced.

All 18,000+ people out of their seats singing and dancing for 3 hours, the band/sound, weather... everything was perfect.

A concert I was really looking forward to on telly tonight but don't think it's telecast here. :(

Archie Roach was supposed to be there too but of course can't now due to a rtecent stroke. Still meant to be included in a special feature. I hope someone from here goes and can write a report.

Seven Songs To Leave Behind

Join Sinead O’Connor, John Cale, Meshell Ndegeocello, Rickie Lee Jones, Gurrumul Yunupingu, The Black Arm Band’s Leah Flanagan, Shellie Morris, Dan Sultan and Ursula Yovich to farewell the Festival with the international musical collaboration of the year

The Festival asked some of the world’s finest singers to reflect on our theme of spirituality and mortality with the question: ‘Which seven songs would you leave behind?’ The result is this unforgettable night of music.

Seven Songs to Leave Behind features an incredible line-up of extraordinary voices brought together for the first time to celebrate the power of song.

Sinead O’Connor, recognised worldwide for her astonishing voice and songs, has been making music, rejecting stereotypes and defying expectations for a quarter of a century.

John Cale, legendary founding member of The Velvet Underground, acclaimed composer and one of the most influential and thought-provoking musicians of all time.

Meshell Ndegeocello, prolific songwriter and fearsome bassist, has had ten Grammy Award nominations during a stellar career traversing musical boundaries and defying categorisation.

Rickie Lee Jones highly influential, Grammy Award-winning, multi-million selling US singersongwriter and producer who, over the course of a three-decade career, has performed and recorded in a variety of musical styles including rock, R & B, blues, pop, soul and jazz and has influenced an entire generation of female singers.

Gurrumul Yunupingu award-winning Indigenous Australian artist who will be familiar to Festival audiences from his previous sold out and critically acclaimed appearances.

The Black Arm Band, Melbourne Festival favourites and multi award-winning musicians, featuring Leah Flanagan, Shellie Morris, Dan Sultan and Ursula Yovich, who have taken audiences around the world by storm since their Festival debut in 2006.

In a format of entwined concerts, over more than three hours, these artists each share highly personal musical essays of seven classic songs that hold special meaning to them. They will sing their first song – the song that switched them on to being a musician, one from master poet and songwriter Leonard Cohen, a song to share with another, a song that they covet – the one above all others that they wished they had written, two songs of their own and one for the end of days – a song to leave behind.

Joining the singers alongside Orchestra Victoria is a handpicked band of Australia’s finest instrumentalists.

Seven Songs to Leave Behind is a spellbinding concert embracing humanity, mortality and spirituality, and a once in a lifetime celebration of what musicians leave behind for us all.

Hey Rosy, I was planning to take my wife to that concert as a surprise, especially to see Sinead O’Connor who not only do we both really admire but with whom I fell totally in love many many years ago.

Unfortunately, last night my wife and her gang of 4 somehow got hold free tickets (f&b included) to see Jimmy Barnes at some Toorak function - I didn’t go (can’t stand the man’s music) – today she awoke hungover and suffering from hearing nerve damage complaining that all she can hear is cockroaches and frogs singing in her head.
Cancel those surprise tickets!

Awww glantone what a lovely surprise that would be. I would have gone with you. :hihi

The concept sounds awesome. Is it being telecast in Melb? It's on Foxtel apparently but I can't find it on Austar. I guess I'll end up being sucked into buying the dvd when it comes out.
