Been to a good gig lately/Concerts [Merged]

Re: Been to a good gig lately? [Merged]

Will be watching the U2 concert that is being streamed live through YouTube. First world wide stream of a live concert. Should be amazing. You have to love youtube, one of the more amazing things the internet has produced.

http://www.youtube.com/U2?feature=mkt-ha-ugc

The Rose Bowl is a amazing rock venue.

that would have been alternative nation at olympic park? easter sunday i believe... p!ssing down with rain. richmond played hawthorn at waverley the same day and we won by a goal. actually that might have been 94 when i think about it. actually when i think about it... in 1995, i'm almost certain they played at festival hall on the day of my 20th birthday.

speaking of psy-trance, if you wanna see a group that combines psy with metal, look up israeli group 'infected mushroom.' they tour here annually... i've seen them half a dozen times now. they are something to behold. they'll next be in melbourne around the new year.

Yep, that was the one....good memory. It was Easter Sunday 1995 and it was absolutely p!ssing down, but what a line up: Nine Inch Nails, The Flaming Lips, Tool, Lou Reed, Faith No More, Violent Femmes, Pennywise, Primus, Ween, L7, Powderfinger, Ice-T, Body Count, Pop Will Eat Itself, The Tea Party, Regurgitator, Custard, Supergroove, Skunkhour, Cosmic Psychos.

Quite a day.

Are Custard still around?

I love psychedelic rock. What is psychedelic trance music like?

hard to explain unless you know what trance is, but i'll try my best.

the sounds are quick, uplifting, hypnotic, but above all... tribal. psy trance is the most appropriate type of "dance" music to play at a bush doof (a rave in the forest) because the beat suits the environment. it's a very underground sound. not as well known as other forms of dance (ie. techo, hard trance, house, progressive, etc). you won't find many psy-trace gigs in a melbourne nightclub.

believe it or not, psy-trance originated from the tribal sounds of goa in india... from their full moon festivals. the best psy acts usually come from japan (eg. tsuyoshi suzuki) and israel (eg. infected mushroom). there are some good australian acts as well. psy is huge in south america, especially brazil, although the 2 real godfathers of psy-trance are english... raja Ram (member of 1200 Mics) and Simon Posford (member of Hallucinogen). Sidenote: Raja Ram and Simon Posford together call themselves "Sphongle," and they played the best psy-trance set i ever heard at the hifi bar back feb 2008.

anyway, to answer your question Rosy, a lot of early psy trance was influenced by psy rock. pink floyd is a good example.

Re: Been to a good gig lately? [Merged]

I to love Psy.
Raja Ram would be the pick of the bunch. Easy listening, i generally tend to recommend him to people who have never heard of Psy Trance.
Astrix is coming in November. I can't wait!! My dancing shoes are ready.

faith no more concert sold out in less than 10 minutes. i was 11th in line at ticketmaster. missed out. gutted. infact, gutted isn't a strong enough word. i'm devastated.

i heard it was strickly 1 show only. here's hoping thats not true.

Re: Been to a good gig lately? [Merged]

apologies in advance rosy, disco, etc, because i am about to cheat the swear filter...

*smile* YEAH!!!

i got a faith no more ticket. can't say how i obtained it. all i will say is... as they say in the classics, it's not what you know, but who you know.

this morning i was so devastated, close to tears. now i'm jumping up and down unable to contain my excitement. life is a roller coaster. think i might listen to some psy-trance to celebrate.

:pooh :hula :banana oh and i guess i should add this... :guitar

Just got tickets to Golden Plains today.

Dinosaur Jr and Pavement on the one bill. Amazing.

I am excited about seeing Tame Impala as well, should be a fun weekend.

Nothing better than a weekend of good mates, BYO booze and the soundtrack of your youth.

Ripping act quintissential 90s blazers with the real thing album.

Great band but reckoned they were touch ordinary live when i saw em.

Saw The Tea Party and Live a number of times and they were very very good live very close to the studio albums.
U2, INXS, the Oils were all great live acts also, as was Living Colour.

I wanna see Muse now theres a ripping live act.

yeah i'm going to soundwave and don't really give a rat's tossbag about most of the other bands, although i do love a few bands on the bill: eagles of death metal, anthrax, reel big fish and jane's addiction

it's almost looking as good as BDO, although lacking the variety.

It is a far better line up IMO. If I was going I would certainly check out Faith No More, Jane's Addiction, Eagles of Death Metal, Anthrax and Clutch.

Re: Been to a good gig lately? [Merged]

I just returned from the Queenscliff Music festival.
Some great acts including
Tim Finn
The Original Wailers
Marcia Hines
The Badloves
Little Birdy

By far the gig I enjoyed the most was Tin Pan Orange. They are unbelievable.
After the festival, I drove across to Hepburn Springs and saw Kate Miller-Heidke and Megan Washington.
What a weekend. I'm pooped!
