Been to a good gig lately/Concerts [Merged]

Re: Been to a good gig lately? [Merged]

Got tickets to the Pixies and am very excited. They will be playing doolittle in its entirety.

I missed out on tickets last year so am very happy. Nostalgia at its best.

So i went along to the U2 concert, having received a free ticket.. Tickets were GA on the floor, and with the person I went with being a big fan, we needed to get close. It wasn't an AC/DC or QOTSA concert, so everyone was well behaved.

The support act was Muse, who I hadn't heard before. Started off promisingly, but by the third song I started to think the songs started sounding too much alike. Was left with the impression that they were an amalgam of a few bands (my thoughts, Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, Van Halen, Depeche Mode), without being any band.. Why would a bas player have a different bass for just about every song?

After an extremely long wait for U2 they finally hit the stage, starting off with some songs from their new album. As I said, I am not a crazy fan, but the highlights for me were New Years Day, Sunday Bloody Sunday (both still sung and played with a passion) No time left on the Horizon, where the Streets have no name and ultraviolet. All in all left fairly impressed. The charisma of Bono is amazing, the other 3 have absolutely no stage presence at all. Bono gets the mix of sincerity and showmanship perfect.

Just signed up for the 2010 Golden Plains ballot.

Always a good weekend (and Pavement are playing!).

So they will be touring Oz, excellent. I won't get to Meredith but I assume they'll play a show or 2 in Melbourne.

Anyone going to the Queenscliffe Festival end of November?

I've been every year for the last 4 and was really looking forward to this year, great lineup.

Then a compulsory uni seminar was scheduled for that weekend.

:( :'(

Nice. Just have to get a ticket in the ballot for Golden Plains and I will be seeing them!

I might grab some tickets for Future of the Left @ The Corner in January (if it hasn't sold out).

Re: Been to a good gig lately? [Merged]

before my music tastes delved into the beautiful hypnotic sounds of psychadelic trance, there was once a rock band that ruled my world.

i have all their cd's (also duplicates on tape).
i have seen them play live 4 times.
i have met them once.
i have their signatures on a copy of what i consider to be the greatest rock album of all time.
they broke up in 1999.

from out of nowhere.
...something i have been dreaming about for 10 years is about to happen.
february 25, 2010.
festival hall.
faith no more.
i know the feeling. it is the real thing. that perfect moment. that golden moment.
i want it all and now i can have it.
i will be king for a day.
a little discipline.
f for fake.
no more cups of sorrow.
jizzlobber. i am what i've done.
easy.

Enjoy Ian.

I am surprised that you can still remember your pre-psychedelic trance days. :hihi

haha. contrary to popular belief, my brain is not fried. although i do concede going to a rock concert is not something i had envisaged or planned on experiencing again. just my opinion but i believe rock music is at deaths door.

That's the psych-trance talking again ;D. Rock is far from dead (witness the BDO sale rates this year!).

I saw Faith No More back in '95....great show.

that would have been alternative nation at olympic park? easter sunday i believe... p!ssing down with rain. richmond played hawthorn at waverley the same day and we won by a goal. actually that might have been 94 when i think about it. actually when i think about it... in 1995, i'm almost certain they played at festival hall on the day of my 20th birthday.

speaking of psy-trance, if you wanna see a group that combines psy with metal, look up israeli group 'infected mushroom.' they tour here annually... i've seen them half a dozen times now. they are something to behold. they'll next be in melbourne around the new year.
