Saw Blur at Hyde Park in Central London tonight. Brilliant show and just confirmed their status as Brit Pop legends. Never thought Daman Albarn was particularly good live, but he put me right back in my place last night.

Awesome show. :clap

Blur eh? Awesome. Did they do stuff like Parklife, Charmless Man and Country House?

Saw Carl Barron last night. All new gags which was great news. Some of the hecklers were a pain. Good show.

Did all the classics apart from Charmless Man - don't know why. Finished with The Universal - not sure there's a better way to end a concert.

Sunshine and beer helps the day along!

For all you guys living in Melbourne that like good guitar you should check out a guy called Tim McMillan. He's got a couple of gigs down there from what I know and is well worth a look.

went to a concert a few months ago, the support was an Australian group called Decoder Ring. They are releasing a new album in just a few days. Their type of music is "Visual / Psychedelic / Rock". original and to my taste so thought I would give them a mention

Coldplay? I think Decoder Ring supported them, was spitting chips when I read that, would've been an awesome concert to go see.

Will wholeheartedly support the mexican's recommendation, they are an incredible little band, very atmospheric. You should be able to find their last release Fractions in music shops, its well worth a purchase. And the singer Lenka has done a solo album, I haven't heard it much but my sister swooned so its apparently alright. They also soundtracked Somersault, that Abbie Cornish flick from 2004.

yep it was Coldplay who incidentally released a free live album recently. You can download it for free and they give away copies on CD at their concerts. Yes I'm a Coldplay fan heh heh, I know....little girls at slumber parties listen to Coldplay.

ANYway .... the new Decoder Ring album is
NEW ALBUM
They Blind The Stars, and the
Wild Team
INSTORES 11 July 2009

I already have "Fractions" on the iPod :)

p.s I think the best music video ever made was by Bob Dylan

I have seen a lot of local bands lately and two that really stand out are the Harpoons, and the Ground Components. The Vasco Era ripped out the jams too.

Plenty of great live music around the pubs and clubs in Melb. Get out and get into it!

Agreed. The live scene in Melbourne has been great in recent times. Plenty of 'unknown' bands to enjoy.

Now if only I had more time to appreciate it more often. ;D

What type of music do they play?

My cuz keeps boring me with Pearl Jam music all the time.

Re: Been to a good gig lately? [Merged]

The Harpoons are a poppy three piece. They play a sort of jangly 60s pop. Sort of low-fi, happy music. The members of the band look about 16 years old but i reckon they are a bit older. Actually they are a four piece but each time i have seen them the drummer has turned up late!

Ground Components are an interesting mix of styles. Pretty raspy, harsh vocal, sort of a weird mix of punk, folk and soul. Bits of irish stuff in there, some mixing and loops and also straight ahead, four on the floor rock.

Great live act, plenty of energy.

Went and saw Oasis last night at Wembley Stadium to finish their UK tour.

Although not a huge fan anymore, I went with a group of English 'geezer' mates and it added to the night. It was an enjoyable flashback to my late teens of the mid 90's. Even got up the front for a bit of jumping around - am way too old for that stuff and am feeling it now! (Funny how small they all look, used to be quite exhilarating/terrifying when you're 14)

Finished with an amazingly rocking version of I am the Walrus. Was a fun a gig - goo goo g'joob!

Is 'Sally can wait' still a fave amongst the fans?

Sure was. I think they said they hadn't played it live for 10 years? but it could of been one of their other hits from 94/95 era. That's the thing about Oasis, all their songs sound the same but they're good for a large scale sing-along. (And the English still love em.)

On a side note, it was funny when after the first song Liam said a "are there any people from Manchester?" (obviously winding up the crowd) to have 50,000+ people boo him - "just cause I'm from Burnage, don't turn on me ya bastards".

Strange man that Liam. ;D

Acca dacca at Gints stadium - fantastic. Everything you'd expect from an acca dacca show.

The highlights for me were the Bon Scott Era stuff, but they put on a good show. Brian Johnson's voice held up well.

Recommend them - I know they are coming home soon.

Awesome. Have to admit that I have been a massive Oasis fan.
