Great performance from the Oils at the G last night. Looks like Rob Hirst still has the touch of class when it comes to drums.

Re: Been to a good gig lately? [Merged]

Went to sound relief at the 'G'...generally bloody awesome...although whoever was the sound tech should be shot...made unbelievable mistakes all day.
Worst performance...Garbriella Cilme...looks like she wanted the cred for being there, but no energy to the performance.
Crowd pleasers..I'll say close tie between Bliss and Eso and Crowded House (Surprise act)
Best performance: Oils followed very closely by Hunters...both groups can still rock out!
Great day...bloody long...food still a rip-off ;D

Gabriella Cilme.....pffft. Just another wannabee who can only sing with an American accent.

Split Enz looked good but didn't fit with the Gen Y's standing around wondering........

Wolfmother looked good also.

Think Peter Garrett enjoyed being out of a suit

He mentioned to everyone that he's a Bummer supporter before he sang Power & the Passion and changed one lyric to Melbourne (instead of the original Sydney).

Shame they didn't play US Forces...... ;D

Also dropped the Pine Gap reference in Power and the Passion ;)

Thought I was a kid in a candy store with my 3 favorites Aussie bands growing up, Oils, Hunters and the Gurus playing on the same day. Also liked Paul Kelly. As a huge Hunters fan, was particularly rapped that they played "The Slab" as their encore. No one around me knew it, but I was rocking out to it. Gutsy encore song selection...one for the hardcore fans.

That's because SMS messages were more important..........geez Gen Y make me laugh. ;D

Indeed..was there on the lovely melb day that had rain, wind, and sun..........couldnt b melb without it.

Cilmi was woeful. Could get a better sound out of a strangled cat! Didnt think that much of Casey Chambers but shes just not my thing.

Surprise guests Crowded House were AWESUM, along with Wolfmother, Hunters and Collectors, Midnight Oil, Paul Kelly and the cross from Syd with John farnham and coldplay. That brought the house down!

Didnt think much of Kylie..never have tho ;) tho having the words on screen to i still call australia home did allow the crowd to drown her out ;)

Using this as the Music thread, does any one know what these lyrics from The Killers song 'Human' mean?

"are we human or are we dancer"

Evo, I read on wikipedia that Gonzo made a disparaging statement about this.....any further info?

It's actually 'dancers', but I still have no idea why you'd be asking if we're human or dancers.

As a band, they have regressed more than any other I have known. Apart from maybe Alanis Morrisette.

Wonderful

Ive been there a few times,

If you enjoyed that, and you hav'nt tried the Queenscliff one, give that a try, in November

Generally, similiar in style, but better organised, with better venues etc.

Thanks Kiwi--already on it!!!

Another tip,

To have a good weekend, you need to stay in town, so you are walking distance to everything,

So you can walk back to your room , or back to the venues , at your leisure, believe me , its a must,

But to do this you need to get in early,

Usually the whole town is booked out, with alot of the hotels permanently booked with regular customers,

You dont want to be travelling in and out of town by car or public transport, i did it first time, its a pain in the butt,

If you have probs finding somewhere, try the Queenscliff hotel, its a big place, nice, with plenty of rooms, and is one of the few places in town not permanently booked, but like everywhere in town that weekend, not cheap,

But even here, you would want to be making a move fairly soon , on your booking if you are going to go.

Once again thanks for those tips Kiwi---and I agree about walking to venues---did this at Apollo Bay---just unpacked the car and did not get in it again

The rest of the world seems unsure too.
