Steely Dan tonight ;D

Just come across this topic and would just like to post some of the best gigs i've ever seen.

Been to many big gigs ACDC, Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, Police, Queen, MJ, Prince, Simple Minds etc etc etc but its more the local bands i'd like to shout out...

There used to be a band in Perth called The Story, fantastic musicians. They played one song basically for the whole gig and it was mostly ad libbed to tell a story. Amazing gig.

Cranky at the Rochester back in '94 i think. Sweaty freaky energetic rock out funk! fantastic stuff.

The Lime Spiders i caught unexpectadly! we walked in and they were playing. Don't know what it was but they seemed very unique, was a great gig.

In the mid eighties The Rookies used to play every Friday night at The Raffles in Perth and to me they were such a symbolic band for that whole Pub Rock era.

There also used to be a band in Perth called Flingle Bunt who were a Jimi Hendrix cover band. a cover band but still they pulled it off quite well.

I loved that pub rock era as i was an age where i loved it louder and louder. Then the nineties came and you felt ashamed almost to be aprt of that era. Having seen the Angels lately (albiet without the original lineup) i can't believe how awesome that whole era was. Rock out with your... you know how it goes :hihi

Ed Rush and Optical at the HiFi bar 2002 and My Friend the Chocolate Cake at the Forum 2004 are recent additions i've really enjoyed. Missed the reportedly incredible DJ Shadow gig that was last in town but dems da breaks.

All these bands stick out in my 25 years of checkin out gigs because they were all unique and i've yet to see a band like them since.

thoroughly enjoyed Steely dan last night....hope you did?

off to see War of the Worlds tonight....

Steely Dan, this weekend, Hunter Valley NSW :fing32

I caught them earlier in the year and they were absolutely incredible. The standard of musicianship was through the roof.

What were they like in NSW?

Awesome TGN. Saw them in the Hunter Valley on Sat and again last night in Sydney. Talk about musicianship, it was incredible to watch. Aside from the genius of Fagan & Becker, Keith Carlock on drums bought the house down with his fluid melodic solo's. The horn section were absolutely smokin' too! 2 gorgeous chick backing singers who just oozed rhythm and sex appeal were the standouts last night! Man they were hot. I can't believe I'm saying this, but Aja was better than the studio version!! The entire night had an intensely sensual rhythmic groove that swept through the Ent Cent like a contagious wave. Different vibe from the openness of the outdoor venue at the Hunter, but equally magical. Everyone in the crowd were engulfed by the musicianship and talent on show and each musician on stage held their own. Standouts for me last night were Aja (*smile* that was brilliant), Deacon Blues, Kid Charlemagne, Do it Again, Babylon Sisters, Dirty Work, Black Cow and Peg.

But what did you really think?

Sounds great (as expected), thanks for the run down but next time try and be more descriptive. ;) :hihi

I've got tickets to this. The open air ampitheatre at Rochford will be the perfect venue for CS&N...if only they were bringing Neil too. What an awesome line up...very excited rosy.

Just a memo in case anyone else had tickets to the above concert which was cancelled. It's now being held on December 8th. I only found out by chance and it would be a shame for anyone to miss out because the organisers are too slack to contact everyone with details.

I got my Black Rebel Motorcycle Club tickets yesterday. Should be an awesome show at the Hi-Fi Bar on the 29th of December. Can't wait....their album 'Howl' is one of my favourites of the last decade.

The hifi bar is a bit of a dive.

Saw the Grand Wazzo at the Rainbow in fitzroy on Sunday night. Went to the VFL GF first then off the to the band. It was a free gig and a good crowd packed in around the bar at the pub.

They played heaps of soul classics - Aretha, James Brown, Otis, Sam and Dave to name a few.

The pub might be closing in a couple of months so if you have never been there or seen one of Melbourne's great bands, get down there on a Sunday soon.

You won't be disappointed!

A little over $60 and I agree with your views on the Hi-Fi.
