Thursday night's Kaiser Chiefs gig was a wholee lot of fun - they played what you would expect, and they were very infectous onstage. Guitar came across harder (heavier) than the albums, probably for the best in a live set. Geez the guitarist Andrew White plays like Tony Iommi from Black Sabbath (maybe it's being left handed). Ricky Wlson crowd-surfed - too basd it was to the VIP area...
The Walkmen were the warm-up act. Personally, I'd find more warmth in a dead body.
Friday night was some Sean Lennon. Totally differnet gig. Tight musianship, mellow beat... If you liked his latest album (which I do) then guarantee you would like the show. Considering how little he tours, he ha great stage presence. Funny onstage banter between songs. Yoko is a lovely lady.
oooohhh yeah those were the days. Whatever happend to big bands. It seems that the new generation of bands really don't do it as well as the boys frome the 80's and early 90's they all seem a bit BORING zzzzzz.....tigatam said:the word is that Axl re records EVERY time he gets a new band member as he is a perfectionist, and will only release the album once tour is completed and the band members are set. hence the ten years waiting, as he has been through a fair few muso's and has had to start all over again.
Agree that in fighting was the downfall of GnR. But grunge had a small part too. GnR are from an era much greater than this with Metallica, Skid Row etc . . . . which dissapeared into the distance to make way for the likes of pearl jam, nirvana etc. . . . . Everything has a cycle i guess.

word of mouth is how you usually find out about bands that aren't so mainstream. forums are always the way to go. football forums like these aren't really that great, because everybody is here to discuss footy and other than that our interests are all very vague and not in-line with one another.
and jb, frankly i was just sick of reading about GnR. Grunge killed metal/hard rock and I couldn't be happier. That's evolution, baby! People should build a bridge

Though tired, I reluctantly succumbed to my wife's calling and followed her to Toff's, above Cookies in Swanston St.
We went into the Performance Room where we had the opportunity to watch 3 bands for $12, of course, plus drinks.
The first band, Plastic Palace Alice, sung original songs heavily influenced by the Velvet Underground & like bands. Very good!
The second band, Little Red, sung original songs too, heavily influenced by bands of the '60s, Beatles, Kinks, Beach Boys. Excellent!
Old age took over and we left before the third band, Belles Will Ring.
What struck me is that the fashion now has completely come around and boys, I suspect of Uni age, are wearing & looking what & like I did at Uni around 1980.
Great to see that after 20-odd years I'm finally back in fashion.
