Grunge killed the biggest band in the world off quicker than you could blink.
Not so sure about that To0. Personal differences within the band killed th band. Nevermind & Use your Illusion were both released in the same year (1991). Both did exceptionally well in the charts.
Grunge killed the nancy boys (poison etc).
Perhaps you are right NYT, but i still think the death of hair metal effected The Gunners fan base as much as many.
Hard to believe that they fell over so suddenly after the Illusion success. I remember so vividly awaiting the release of their next albums only to be bitterly disappointed. The Spaghetti Incident?
It was a shame because no doubt they could write a great rock tune.
I am not a G'n'R fan, however about a year ago I read an interesting article on Axl Rose, and the album that always seems to be in works - "Chinese Democracy." The album also talked about the break up of G'n'R. The band as a group was gone after Use your Illusion. Drink and Drugs were taking their toll. Slash & Axl just weren't getting on.
Am I right is saying the Spaghetti incident is effectively a whole lotta punk covers? From my memory of the article there just were too many creative differences in the band. Slash wanted the next album to be a traditional rock album - Axl wanted an epic. For those that know there music history, Axl started turning into a Brian Wilson (Smile). Production on the album wasn't fast enough - Axl wanted perfection - the rest of the band gave up and quit the band.
Axl has been through a whole lot of musicians and producers on this album. But the article stated that those who have heard the tracks think the stuff is good.
Hopefully we hear it soon.
