Been to a good gig lately/Concerts [Merged]

Re: Been to a good gig lately? [Merged]

Snow Patrol rock! Awesome band.

Thanks Skybeau. My old haunts were the Bridge, Espy, Corner, Prince of Wales, etc. Just wondering if they're still alive or if the local band circuit has moved elsewhere? Does anyone frequent Bennetts Lane? I've only read about it from where I am. Guess that's more in my age group now, but I'm more interested in seeing session muso's these days.

Re: Been to a good gig lately? [Merged]

am heading to see gunsnroses, well, axl and his support band next friday. :cutelaugh should be . . interesting. taking my little bro as he was far to young to enjoy the calder park experience. Dont really go with much thoughts in mind. They played some awesome sets in germany, but he also had his fair share of dummy spits and crap shows too.
Mainly going for rose tattoo though. they were a little before my time (born 81) so really coudnt get into them when i was young. Looking forward to a good night out regardless. . as long as Axl isnt late . . or throws a tanti . . or sounds pox. . .
i will have a whinge tho, where is this new chinese democracy album thats been coming for over 10years! itd want to be a ripper after that long!

I'm trying to be a responsible year 12 student, but Arctic Monkeys and Snow Patrol? How can I resist? ;D

Its a tough ask RainseysGirl, I know!!! Two awesome bands you might never see again unless you're working/living in the UK??!! Man that's a tough gig.

My 2 cents?? Stay totally focused on your studies this year babe and forget both gigs. Sacrifice year 12 (in terms of fun!) and get the score you need to do whatever you want at Uni or Tafe. Once you're in, you can defer for a year (ie, 2008!!!!!) and see the Arctic Monkeys and Snow Patrol at Wembly or some other "local"venue in London...sooooooo much better than here baby!!! Know what I mean?? WhooooHoooo!! ;D

PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFT!!! Very soft Stripsey...

Seem them here THEN defer and see them over there!!!

It will not kill your year 12 studies, I can assure you...I had plenty of "nights off" when I went through year 12 and it didn't hurt my career aspirations one iota. Besides, Snow Patrol (at least, I don't when the Monkey's are playing) is in September...that's a nothing zone school-wise...

Unless you want to be a rocket surgeon...then maybe consider skipping the shows...

Agreed, except for the fact that I don't like either band ;)

I received the sad news that Mach Pelican will be no more following their current tour.

Nice pubs those. I still visit the Corner for the occasional gig and can ALWAYS be found there after a Tiger game at the 'G for a quiet couple (or more). I have spent many a Saturday arvo at the Espy. Anyone remember the original GB (Great Britain) before it was revamped? It used to be a great, dirty venue for the occasional gig.

Now that I live down the coast I don't get to visit the old pubs as much. :'(

The coast does have it's own perks though ;D .

Re: Been to a good gig lately? [Merged]

Venue-wise, the Tote is probably my favourite. Espy is good but anywhere south of the river loses points with me. Pony is great for the 2am slot and dingy dawn drinks.

Haven't been to the East Brunswick Club to see bands, but I down a few in the front bar every now and again. The band part seems somewhat pretentious to me. I'll probably go along to see the Bawdies there this Saturday so I'll find out.

last time i got thrown out of the espy there were no maoris/samoans to deal with (thank christ)... but i have been since and yeah they've got some big boys working there again.

Re: Been to a good gig lately? [Merged]

My strategy is to be very polite on the way in and very, very polite on the way out, man!

Re: Been to a good gig lately? [Merged]

yeah i am, i think they've forgotten me since that night of mischief.

Re: Been to a good gig lately? [Merged]

went to see gnr last night at rod laver. I havent seen a band there since Audioslave many moons ago, and i must say for a larger venue it rocked last night. Im not a fan of big venues, prefer the intimate gigs at forum, festy hall, prince etc. . . .
Rose Tatto, brilliant as usual, Sebastian Bach is still as hard as he was 15 years ago, and GnR, well they werent too bad!!!
Was a bit sceptical of heading to a gig, where the band hasnt released anything for 10years, but they still managed to rock it. A lot of slow points where axl would intro the new band members, then they would have a 10 minute solo. Im all up for the band intro, but really doing it for EVERY person, a bit much. then there was some weird "Bubbles" character, that is obviously designed for the American leg of the tour. Bad move having him Axl, he was just bizzare!!!

All old tunes belted out with brilliance, the crowd going NUTS! but some new stuff was a bit . . interesting. Very politically based in some new stuff, but that is the way everyone is turning i guess. It was different, but i liked it. Some slower stuff, but he is an ageing rocker, so cnt be expected to thrash them out like he used to.

My biggest dissapoinment is that he really had no crowd interaction. Sebastian was great with the crowd, as were rose tattoo. But it took 3 songs for Axl to even utter a word to the crowd. never was a talker. . . . :hihi
And the spaces between songs that couldve used some crowd interaction.

Highlights:

the crowd diversity. Possibly everyone in my area was a 40+ man, who ripped thier shirts off and were head banging to the point of pain. AWESOME! Then next bay a 60+yr old woman, with her famaily there, rocking out. Very cool.

The reaction when they came out and started with welcome to the jungle. What better to kick it off, and Axl's voice held up so it was fantastic.

guitarists playing their solos to Angie, Dont Cry and acdc, very cool to have some classics thrown in the mix.

Sebastian and Axl belting out My Michelle together, so good.

You could be mine / sweet child of mine. Watching every ageing metal head go absoloutly INSANE!!

Thier set was 2 and a bit hours, which is excellent value for money. After the Axl of old, everyone was really interested to see just how it would pan out. Definetley played the best set they coould, and entertained the masses. Any one going tonite, be prepared for a mass headache! Gig finished at 1.30am and by the time i trecked back to FTG, it was 3 before i hit the sack. Lay there my ears ringing, head pounding, no voice and neck aching! But so worth it. No one even noticed the 3c temp when leaving, all so pumped up!

Lets hope the album isnt too far away.

GnR, thanks for finally getting here!!!

Re: Been to a good gig lately? [Merged]

Thanks tigatam. Love G 'n R but not going to see Axl. I'll have to leave the Calder memory as it was. Be interested in more of a song list - much off the Use Your Illusion albums?

Re: Been to a good gig lately? [Merged]

I went to the show last night and i was a great show with all the trimmings. The gunners played all their hits and some new stuff as well and the sow went for over 5hrs so it was well worth the $$$. I must say that Seb Bach was Brilliant he is a true showman who knows how to work a crowd.
As was the case with Calder park all those years ago he blew GNR out of the water and must say gnr needed all the pyro technics lights and big screens.
Hope seb bach comes back cause i'd pay the money just to see him.

Thanks Tigatam and clown.

Would like to have seen some Use Your Illusion stuff - though Mr Brownstone would have almost been worth the price of the ticket alone: great great song.
