Glad to hear that the people who went to the RHCP’s last night enjoyed the concert. I don’t mind the RHCP’s and would like to have gone, but surprisingly several people here at work came away disappointed.

Don’t shoot the messenger here, but their view was that they were a bit self-indulgent, going on long winded jam-like sessions and solos. They also said there was a bit of acoustic material that went a bit flat and that their ending was also a bit flat ?

The fact a few of these people said that they also would have liked to have heard them play a few more of their hits tells me that their opinion is probably worth jack sh*t anyway, (and that for all intents and purposes they’re just dumbed down generalists when it comes to taste in music), but I still wouldn’t mind hearing from those who went as to what they think of some of the above.

What about the Fed sqaure jam session, that is a incredibly cool gig and a once in a life time thing for those there.

personally i love listening to their jams, i think they are masters of their crafts. id pay to see them jam.

what struck me was hearing a lot of people around me who werent hugely familiar with their stuff, it seemed like their was a lot of people their who were only there to say 'i saw the RHCP' as opposed to big fans of their stuff. one guy next to me who kept yapping on to his girlfriend about what a big fan he is of them and 'prefers their older funkier stuff' couldnt tell the difference between flea and john frusciante ::)

What's the NY music scene like NY Tiger? Are there good gigs every nite? And how much would u pay?

Sean Lennon? Ouch!
(That would be a freebie?)

Not as in touch as I would like to be Fawlty. Family commitments etc. There's generally something every night. What makes it difficult in the US, is that it is difficult to get a ticket a lot of the time to medium and large shows - so you have to use scalpers (which I am reluctant to do on principle). If you use scalpers, expect to pay triple the price.

The Kaiser Cheifs were $30 through ticketmaster, Sean Lennon (I like his music) was $22. Maybe I'll say G'day to Joko?

i have a ticket for lucinda williams at the house of blues in new orleans next month and its only 30 bucks US. thats so cheap. if it was at the concert hall it would be a 100 bucks easy.

“Como se llama (si), bonita (si), mi casa (si, Shakira Shakira), su casa Shakira, Shakira”

“Oh, Shakira, Shakira (Hey !)”

Lyrics and singing by, you guessed it........... Shakira.

If he plays a guitar made out of wood to make enough money to save 2 trees (or 1000, or 100000), is it wrong?

I've got no problem with it. He's the preacher.

and the hypocrite...

You're the one criticizing him and calling him a hypocrite. If you're going to do that, at least have an opinion youcan back up. Do you know how many trees a year go towards the musical instrument industry as opposed to the wood chipping/paper industry driven by the likes of Nissan and Mitsubishi? Do you know which industry takes it's raw materials from sustainable regrowth forests and which one continues to destroy old growth wilderness areas? Do you know how much time, effort and money John Butler has poured into wilderness and wildlife funds?

Slagging Butler for using a wooden guitar is a very ill informed, immature thing to do. You might think it sounds 'clever', but trust me, it doesn't.

Believe me, Disco, when it comes to Maton guitars I am VERY informed. I am sure John Butler has poured millions and millions of his billions into wilderness and wildlife funds. It justs disappoints me that such an avid conservationist has to use a piece of mother earth to make his brilliant music.

I wouldn't question GJ re: the Maton. To be honest Disco08 I misread your initial post and thought you were criticizing Butler for playing an instrument made of wood, hehe. I'll tape my eyes open from now on when I read posts in PRE.

With all this aside, John Butler is the best live soloist in the country, hands down. He doesn't need a band, he can do it all himself and keep the crowd going. The thing I love about slide is how it can double as a rhythm instrument when the notes are struck. His acoustic guitar work is also very sharp.

He can certainly play. A virtuoso.

Wilco are a top outfit.

Didn't get a chance to see them up here in Brissy, but would have loved too.
