Re: Been to a good gig lately? [Merged]

heard about it jb, but can't make it at that time :(

i went to point nepean music festival on saturday, was a fantastic festival

got to see the vasco era, the audrey's, sierra leone refugee all stars, terrance simien & the zydeco experience, taj mahal and ben harper & the innocent criminals.

i didn't go to the sunday event which featured john mayer and missy higgins, although i'm sure that was amazing too.

John Butler is playing Fed Square tomorrow at 5.45pm.Free

I love John Butler's maton guitar... made out of the finest of trees...

Re: Been to a good gig lately? [Merged]

If he plays a guitar made out of wood to make enough money to save 2 trees (or 1000, or 100000), is it wrong?

You're the one criticizing him and calling him a hypocrite. If you're going to do that, at least have an opinion you can back up. Do you know how many trees a year go towards the musical instrument industry as opposed to the wood chipping/paper industry driven by the likes of Nissan and Mitsubishi? Do you know which industry takes it's raw materials from sustainable regrowth forests and which one continues to destroy old growth wilderness areas? Do you know how much time, effort and money John Butler has poured into wilderness and wildlife funds?

Slagging Butler for using a wooden guitar is a very ill informed, immature thing to do. You might think it sounds 'clever', but trust me, it doesn't.

Believe me, Disco, when it comes to Maton guitars I am VERY informed. I am sure John Butler has poured millions and millions of his billions into wilderness and wildlife funds. It justs disappoints me that such an avid conservationist has to use a piece of mother earth to make his brilliant music.

I tell you what, that Will Ferrel is a bloody talented guy isnt he ? How he can manage to star in all those movies AND be the drummer of the RHCP's is quite amazing dont you think ?

Why exactly Gyps? His whole array of guitars could probably have been made from one branch. His efforts have probably helped save whole wilderness regions, not to mention the countless species contained within them. I think most mother earth lovers would be pretty happy with the trade-off.

Re: Been to a good gig lately? [Merged]

back to the title of this thread ;D

saw the chili peppers last nite. went solo coz i was given a free ticket randomly on sunday.

u'd struggle to find three better talents at their respective instruments than flea, chad smith and john frusciante. they are just masters of their crafts. i could watch them jam for hours.

Re: Been to a good gig lately? [Merged]

Agree with you there JD

Do you ever think they regret their name?

Re: Been to a good gig lately? [Merged]

It certainly does
IMO I reckon it sucks

Great Band, Great Ideas, Great Musicians, just the name really gets to me

Re: Been to a good gig lately? [Merged]

I certainly am not a fan but I am glad you had fun.

Last gig I went to was a couple of weeks ago, Turnpike at Exile on Smith St. They were great as usual.
