Been to a good gig lately/Concerts [Merged]

Re: Been to a good gig lately?

Yep the band did the songs justice for sure. I didn't go there expecting the concert to be 100% faithful to Pink Floyd and the concert was no less enjoyable because it wasn't.

The non-interupted Dark Side of the Moon in it's entirety was simply awesome to hear live.

Can't remember the name of the bloke who played lead, in fact can't remember any of the band members names, but he was great. He was also the main vocalist for one song, pretty sure it was Money, and did it real credit. The band members did a lot of vocals actually. Amazing trombone and drum cameos and the female singers were very powerful in their solos.

I kinda wish I didn't put on a protest about the cost of the souvenir book/magazine/program or whatever it was because I'd love to read all about them today. They were beautifully presented in a Dark Side of the Moon album cover but were 40 bucks. Hardly anyone was buying them. Had they been on sale after the concert I might have weakened and bought one just the same.

Re: Been to a good gig lately?

those program things are the biggest rip off, i agree. not like a t-shirt which u can wear again and again. mostly just glossy crap which once looked at, is forgotten about.

Re: Been to a good gig lately?

Saw Muse(first time ever) wednesday night , i don't think i could come up with the right words to describe how good they
were so i won't even try...
Really wish i had gone to the tuesday night show as well...

Re: Been to a good gig lately?

Muse live one of the best acclaimed live acts in the world according to scribes, sadly i couldnt see them but wanted to bastard work. Am a Muse fan good solid act.

Re: Been to a good gig lately?

Went to see "Little Britain Live" last night at Rod Laver.

Brilliant TV show perfectly adapted for the stage.

Just wished Tom Baker had come out on stage to utter those words, "Britain, Britain, Britain."

Williams & Lucas are right up there with Howard & Clary. Probably even better.

Re: Been to a good gig lately?

I'd like to see the Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Fan doco at Nova in Carlton but will probably wait and see if it comes out on DVD or telly.

I hope to see it next week Rosy, so I will do a review here or on the movie thread.

I've got tickets to this. The open air ampitheatre at Rochford will be the perfect venue for CS&N...if only they were bringing Neil too. What an awesome line up...very excited rosy.

Saw CS&N at the Hammersmith Stadium back in 1983. Definately in my top 5 fav gigs.

Re: Been to a good gig lately?

I'm hoping to catch Bonnie Raitt in April, would love to see Tony Joe White as well but they are both playing in the same week, will have to see how the budget stretches out, might have to give a couple of club80's the flick :(

Also planning to see the Leonard Cohen doco.

Love Raitt's cover of Richard Thompson's 'Dimming of the Day.' That's quality!

Re: Been to a good gig lately?

Eric Clapton, last night - what a performance. You can tell how much he loves playing guitar by his body language. His hard rock work was as good as ever and then three or four of his quieter pieces were excellent. My number one - Wonderful Tonight was played with hardly a sound from the audience. The slide guitar work by Dave Trucks is something to listen to. Dave and Doyle Bramhall could put on their own concert with no trouble at all. (I think Dave Trucks does have his own band in the USA). Two hours of just pure music, no chat in between songs, just one song after another. The best I have been to for a while - Eric just tipped Mark Knofphler off number one spot of concerts I have been.

Support act Mia Dyson was also worth listening to. I hadn't heard of her before, but will be on the look out for a CD of hers.

Mia Dyson's 'parking Lots' is her latest and its pretty good.

I saw clapton at the sports and entertainment centre back in 84 or 85 and it was really dull. I am glad he has fired up again. i saw dire straits there at about the same time and they were the most boring band ever.

Mark Knofphler on his own last year at Rod Laver, he was pretty good. My error, it is Derek Trucks who plays with Eric. Will keep eye out for Mia Dyson.

I'm stunned to learn they are all still alive Rosy.

The concerts have been cancelled due to David Crosby's ill health.

Re: Been to a good gig lately?

That's tough luck Rosy. As consolation I would recommend the Cohen tribute, "I'm Your Man.'

It's a great music film with just the right blend of background and interviews and a great selection of songs. The Wainwrights, Rufus and Martha, dominate, but there's some nice tunes by some of the other featured artists, including Nick Cave and Jarvis Cocker.

Cohen himself is interviewed and he comes across as a gentle man with a nice line in self-deprecating humor. The final song, with Cohen out front of an irish pub band in what looks like a New York brothel is a real crack-up. Watch for Cohen looking to his side when the first solo comes along. Priceless!

Overall, just about the best music film i've seen for quite awhile. Up there with the Last Waltz as one of the greats.

Re: Been to a good gig lately?

Sounds good cass. I reckon I'm due for a dose of smog. Will try to get down to see it one day next week.

Lightning in a bottle for me, my god what I would have given to be at the Radio City Music Hall in Feb 2003.

Re: Been to a good gig lately?

I watched The Last Waltz yesterday. Love it.

What or who is Lightning in a Bottle Tiggy?

I love Muse but I, like craig, missed out on seeing them unfortunately.

I did get to see the Tenacious D gig a few weeks ago at Festival Hall. They turned the gig into a mini theatrical performance, somewhat in line with their movie that's coming out. Tacky yet very very funny. Great entertainers indeed.

The next gig i'm looking forward to seeing is Eagles of Death Metal in March
