just got home from pearl jam. AWESOME GIG.

i missed the kings of leon, spewin as they're one of fav bands also...

Re: Been to a good gig lately?

Pearl Jam last nite, what a massive gig. Just pure rock and roll.

The Pearl Jam classics are basically what my generation grew up on. Great songs to sing along to,

Kings of Leon, very funky Southern CCR type band.

Bring on U2 this week.

Saw Pearl Jam last night, great gig went with a mate who went previous night, he said they played only about 8 songs same from previous night. Had great seats on the side and had Milne, S.Fisher, Hamill, Maguire and Riewoldt sit 5 rows behind us.

Re: Been to a good gig lately?

I've got tickets to this.  The open air ampitheatre at Rochford will be the perfect venue for CS&N...if only they were bringing Neil too.  What an awesome line up...very excited rosy.

Re: Been to a good gig lately?

A mate of mine here in Copenhagen told me he's got tickets to see .... wait for it .... CHUCK BERRY live in January. He just hopes Chuck doesn't die in the meantime - he's 80.

I was staggered to learn he's still kicking. Actually first heard him mention it in a conversation that was being conducted in Danish, and I wasn't sure I was hearing things right ...

Re: Been to a good gig lately?

I went to a great Gig last night at a packed Shepherd's Bush Empire (which it's fair to say is a bit of a dump). A couple of mexican acoustic guitarists called Rodrigo Y Gabriela. They play a brand of music that is hard to define. Metal flamenco? "Grunge" world music? Whatever you call it they put on a pretty good show - just the two of them and their guitars. Rodrigo played most of the lead parts while Gabriela (who seemed to go into a trance at times) played almost as a percussion section rather than a guitarist, though there were times when they were both hammering away at their guitars as if they were conga drums.

They played a number of latin pieces to start with and for a while a certain sameness started to creep into the gig but then they played some covers that took it up a notch. First was a surprisingly good version of Wish You Were Here - the crowd sang while they played a very distinctive version, slightly quicker than the original. Then two other highlights - the medley that straddled Metallica, The White Stripes and . . .Dave Brubeck(!), and a version of Stairway To Heaven with Gabriela playing Bonham-esque guitar behind Rodrigo's lead.

All up a good show only spoilt by the venue which doesn't sell reserved seats and I suspect sells more tickets for the seating areas than there are seats. We ended up sitting on the side of level 2 which meant we had to sit on the edge of our seats to see Gabriela. Still, it was only £15, good value all things considered.

Re: Been to a good gig lately?

I went to Roger Waters/Dark Side of the Moon concert last night and absolutely loved it. I searched for reviews this morning and the Melb and Sydney ones weren't that complimentary imo but the New Zealand one pretty much summed up the way I felt.

The first half had mixed songs including a couple of Water's own new songs. It was a tad political with images of Bush and Bin Laden etc and at one stage a giant graffitied floating pig hovering above the audience with a big message on one side "Bring David Hicks home now!"

The second half was awesome. The entire Dark Side of the Moon album was performed non stop. They performed a few more songs in an encore and the final song, Comfortably numb, was brilliant. Glad they didn't come on for another encore after that because it would have been virtually impossible to top it.

Roger isn't Pink Floyd but he had a great band and their voices and cameo roles added to the experience.

The images and pyrotechnics were brilliant and the radio theme on the screen throughout the show added an extra dimension. A great experience.

Re: Been to a good gig lately?

Rosy, I really love Dave Gilmour's guitar playing. Did Rog's band do the songs justice? Who played lead?
