Been to a good gig lately/Concerts [Merged]

Re: Been to a good gig lately?

Heading off to the Concert Hall tonight to see Ben Folds with the MSO. Anyone else going along?

We've got pretty much front row seats in the Dress Circle (more $$$$) so the view and atmosphere will be awesome i'm tipping.

Really looking forward to it.

Re: Been to a good gig lately?

Went to the Prince last night to see The Cat Empire again, they were supported by the Ross Irwin Soul Special (a side project of the cat empire, led by their horns section).

Both bands were VERY tight, as expected. An awesome night, and if you have never seen the cat empire live then i recommend you go and see them when they return to melbourne in December.

Otis.

Re: Been to a good gig lately?

One of the best live band's going around the empire, Otis i hav'nt seen the female singer before. Did you get her name by any chance?..

Re: Been to a good gig lately?

was at the legends of motorsports album launch last nite. very tight i must say, the support acts were really good also. special mention to a band i think will make waves in the future, 'the legs'

Re: Been to a good gig lately?

Off to see Van Morrison at Ronnie Scotts tonight. Should be great, especially in such a small club.

Amazingly jealous TGN!

;D I'll let you now how it goes M33!

Just got back from the newly renovated (and more expensive) Ronnie's where Van Morrison just played the first of his two gigs there tonight. He was brilliant. A mix of jazz, blues and a little bit of country and western. He played for about 90 minutes before they kicked us all out to let the next crowd in.

Pasty faced and decked out in his typical buttoned up suit, panama hat and glasses he looked typically dour but he was in great form singing as smooth and as well as ever with a band that coped with the changes in style and complemented his songs perfectly (except for the big guy on guitar who looked a bit like David Koch and I suspect sang much the same at times).

Of his well known stuff he did a jazzed up Moondance, starting off playing sax; a bouncy version of Jackie Wilson Said; Wild Nights, ripping along until dropping right down in the chorus for effect; and he closed with Gloria which brought a standing "o" as he dawdled off the stage.

Just down in front of us walking in to a plumb table just as he started (while those of us who got there much earlier sat up the back  ) were Nicole Kidman (bloody tall) and Keith Urban which was quite funny when just before his real Country and Western song The Man announced in a new take on an old joke that he'd made two mistakes in his musical career; the first was doing country and the second doing western. Kidman laughed but I don't think our man Keith did.

All in all a brilliant night.

That'd be your namesake Julie O'Hara :)

her scatting was amazing. She worked really well with Felix, Harry and the band. Great stage presence 8)

Absolutely jealous now TGN!! Sounds like it was a brilliant night, I've always wanted to visit Ronnie Scotts. Hopefully I will someday?

Re: Been to a good gig lately?

Been down at The Rainbow Hotel in Fitzroy (just off Brunswick st.) the last few fridays catching a band called Fats Wah Wah.
Pretty funky 5 piece. Singer sounds like Tom Waites is his idol. Top little pub The Rainbow.

Re: Been to a good gig lately?

The Grand Wazoo... yeah they still play there on Sundays. I am sure I used to see them on Friday nights years ago (a friend of mines Uncle was in the band) I think they had had a residency at the Rainbow for about 15 years!!

Re: Been to a good gig lately?

Yeah that's them, saw the guys a few times on a Sunday and the place was packed! Great little pub, we're very lucky to be spoilt for choice down here.

Re: Been to a good gig lately?

Going to Grand Final Saturday

Got Irene Cara, John Young and Australian idol Finalists should be a great gig. Disappointed they are going to play a footy game afterwards.
