Bachar Houli - بشار حولي,

Love Houli's run and carry combined with his long kicking.

Can be unaccountable at times but he doesn't have a better replacement IMO...yet.

Definitely a spot for him in the 22 come Round #1.

Yeah I just don't get the knocks on Bachar.

Has been a very good player for us. At his hard-running best he's a star.

Like Deledio, we usually win when he is in our bests.

Will Menadue take his spot? Yes, eventually.

Until then, let's enjoy what has been a fine career.

When Bachar is our worst player, he can leave our team. From my point of view he does a hell of a lot more right than wrong during games n honestly carries his share of work. Bit hard to run n create when half your team mates are standing around picking their dates, usually leaves you running into heaps of trouble without much support. I'm a fan of the Bachar.

He's too good to be replaced. Will keep his spot until he retires after 30.

Bachar always seems to improve on something each year, I look forward to seeing what his focus is this preseason.

This. And our team is crying out for more run and carry. While this is the case he will be part of our team.

happy the positives are outweighing the negatives here. this bloke does a lot on the field and off it for the club. feel sorry for those that are hung up on a couple of finals where the majority of the team were crap and the losses weren't based on any individuals errors. get over it.

I don't rate Houli at all - and here is my rationale:

Gets plenty of the pill, (He plays the loose man and is given 95% of his disposals and is not damaging enough with them - check his contested/uncontested possessions stats)
Uses it as well as any player in the team, (Can only kick on one side and is a poor decision maker, often going sideways, I don't agree that he is a good user of the footy)
Never injured, (He will never get injured because he is unwilling to put his body on the line, I would rate him amongst the softest players in the AFL)
Never reported, (Same)
Never in the in the negative press. (Good citizen, no doubt)
What the hell do fans want ? (I want a player off half back who is more accountable, good ball user on both sides of his body, willing to absorb pressure without coffing up the ball, wins his own footy and doesn't continually ask for the footy backwards of play)

I think we need to better than Houli off half back if we are to seriously improve. Houli is not a finals footballer imo.
I actually do like Bacharach but I do get frustrated at his one sidedness and yes, I believe his disposal of the ball can be better.

i dont think Houli spends much time as the loose man, and he does put his body on the line. his strength mightnt be contested ball or hitting packs, but it isn't because he is scared.

on his final, watching live at the ground i thought he was bad, particularly early. but watching the replay changed my mind. he made a couple of highly visible mistakes, but on the whole did more good work than most of his teammated.

I got as far as ports second goal yesterday and could watch no longer...big ups to anyone who can sit through that pantsing a second time.

Hmm, and when his inability to use the ball under pressure causes another critical error in a final this year, we all say, oh well, he's a good bloke off the field, who needs a premiership?

I don't think Houli is a poor footballer. I think he's been a valuable contributor, and offers the ability to play a required role. I also think he currently deserves a spot in the top 22.

However, if we want finals success, we need to find players who can play Houli's role, but have a bit more composure under duress. Otherwise we will continue to look like a rabbit in the headlights in big games.

The thing is, his role is so critical, that the fact that he often turns it over under pressure, or has a tendency to play the ball backwards into higher pressure has an even bigger impact than if one of the inside mids had that tendency. As a purely outside distributor, he can't afford any lack of composure with ball in hand.

While I doubt that Houli would be in our next premiership side, the real problem here is that we do not have enough people who can distribute well out of the back line. IMO Morris, Batchelor, Chaplin and Rance do not have great disposal skills. Rance must play he is deservedly an all Australian player. We need upgrades on at least three out of Morris, Batchelor, Houli and Chaplin. If all your back line run comes from one or two players it is too easy to defend against. We saw sides this year let Morris and Chaplin dispose of the ball because they know they will not hurt you. The benchmark side this year often had Mitchell, Hodge, Burgeyone and Suckling in the back line, all smart defenders but equally importantly could launch attacks. We leave this task to too few and to blame Houli solely misses the mark in my view

Top 10 in the b&f past four years - Cotchin, Deledio, Martin, Rance, Riewoldt...Houli. Been one of the side's mainstays. Very good pickup at no cost.

Good call. Looking through his stats with us he's been unbelievably consistent over the past 4 years.
Would be one of the first picked.

Has invited Hisham Kerbatieh from the Calder Cannons to train with the club. Great first opportunity for us to see how good this kid is before the 2015 draft.

Well done Bash.

Pretty decent footballer n outstanding community character. Massive win for Tigerland enticing this bloke away from Essendrugs.

Maybe Houli saw the writing on the wall. St James did try to keep him, but Houli was adamant that he wanted out. It was good to see them lose him for nothing and get shafted for once.
