Bachar Houli - بشار حولي,

i like houli. Do you reckon he'd be spewing or stoked bushy beards are fashionable? Its a bit like me. I become fashionable by pure chance for about two weeks a decade.

I reckon Houli's been great for us but he had a stinker on the weekend. Many missed handballs or bad handballs to players under pressure. He won't play 2 bad games in a row, rarely does.

For those who studied Bachar at Essendon - are there any at Richmond, much younger, who need to know when to go at the ball?

The answer is almost always. Bachar has almost learned this. Brandon will too.

Yep, don't think the hard pill get comes natural to Houli, however his learned himself to do the un natural, bloody reliable footballer, I'm not against him coming up the ground for a while

Dermot on SEN today singled out Houli as not going in when it was his turn. Pointed out a passage of play where he was half a step ahead of Cloke but didn't go in for the ball, instead he peeled off to pick up another man.

Houli could play Grigg's role if/when Grigg is dropped to the VFL and someone with a little more steel in their game character could slot into his position on the half-back line.

He, like so many, is a great kick when in the open, but not so when the heat is turned up.

Really good footballers make good decisions and execute their skills under pressure. We have too few really good footballers.

He like so many at Richmond look great when there is no pressure.

Good players hit targets with blokes hanging off them.

I said a few years ago I thought Houli played scared, I stand by it, I am not saying he is a coward, I am saying he just doesn't commit to the contest.

It's not saying much, but thought he was in our best half dozen. Definite pass from me.

Agree. Has been one of our better players for the season. Least of our worries.

houli is one of very few who has a natural instinct to run hard to receive and provide an option. he's always running hard off the ball. if his teammates worked as hard as him off the ball then we'd have many more options out there. people only look at players going in head first into packs as a sign of guts and effort.

Absolutely. Last night he was the only one spreading from the contest giving the ball carrier an option. He might not stand under a pack but he runs himself into the ground trying to give a team mate an option.

But "as a defender" he needs to go to contests because the balls coming in aren't aimed at him.
I agree he should play as a half forward / winger.
But even then he tends to panic kick going inside 50.
Never going to win a flag with Houli plain and simple.

He's a solid player. Has some shortcomings but he has earnt his spot and would not be high in our list of current concerns

Me too. I could only name 4 or 5 players I thought didn't totally disgrace the jumper on Friday night and Houli was one of them.

Except when he squibbed it when he had to put his body on the line against Cloke. So yeah give him credit, he only partially disgraced the jumper last Friday night.

Are you taking into account that Houli was the loose man in defence and did not not have any impact on the game.

Whilst his opponent up the other end, Maxwell, played a defence first game and significantly impacted our forwards effectiveness.

Contrast the the space in the forward lines in the first quarter. Houli is up the ground looking for a cheap kick and Maxwell is helping his defenders win the game with numbers back.

Houli does not deliver enough for the responsibility of being the lose man in defense. He needs to impact games, 20 possessions is fools gold.

When players are running for him he hits the target. It's not happening this year, for any of our defenders.

While some are throwing barbs at blokes squibbing it, have a look at Ellis..
And it isn't the first time.
