angus graham playing like a cardboard cutout

Thanks, thought I saw him recently on an opposition bench (why would Pies and Saints have him back :-X ;D )

Angus Graham took one contested field mark which was immediately turned over. Its not good enough IMHO

The man is our clydesdale. Just keeps pulling, doesn't stop. Not the best Ruckman going around but gees he's getting a lot of game time for a young ruckman.

Way to early to write off. Not many young ruckman were getting as much game timer as Big Gus.

Bingo when vickers got subbed he gave he's all he's the best we got at the moment and IMO the coaches are asking to much from him for a young ruckmen

It is absolutely clear to me that Graham is sub AFL level. He has been around for quite a while and I cannot see any or at least sufficient improvement to be confident he will be anything.

Browne is not AFL level either.

That leaves X. Unless he has got what it takes, we need to seriously consider swapping a draft pick for a good young ruckman who might make it. There is little prospect of drafting one. Who can predict if a gangly 19 yo will make a ruckman?A second round pick for Vardy?(who we should have taken on the 2nd round in 2009 instead of Taylor)

watched a replay today. Healy was laying in to him all night about not working hard enough. thought it was a bit harsh given Graham basically played a lone ruckman in the second half once Vickery was subbed off.

He tries hard but we really need an upgrade. It's the missing link in our midfield.

I took notice of gus (mostly in the first half), and thought he was getting a pass mark. Several times I saw him come in to influence a marking contesting in the oppositions forward line to our advantage. I think, he'll never be a star, but is obviously doing what the coach is asking from him.

If not, I could see 2 of TV, Browne, and Post rotating through the ruck.

Again, no star, and he tires massively at the end of each quarter, but when he's got enough gas in the tank, he does OK.

Look Angus is probably a nice guy who is giving his heart and soul for the club that can't be doubted. But the truth is that he is just not a quality AFL ruckman. He is a back up ruckman that gets you through if your quality ruckman is injured and that is all. I wouldn't delist him. However, if we are taking the no compromise youth policy why is he still playing after so many really bad performances? Why aren't we playing Browne or Vickery as first ruckman to let them grow into the role. Honestly they couldn't be any worse the Graham. As Gnarley said in a earlier post he took only 1 contested mark last night. He has barely taken a contested mark in 5 games. His tap work is horrible and usually goes to the opposition because he is so unbalanced when he wins his hit outs. He is a major concern going forward which needs to be looked at if we wan't to be a real contender.

how many contested marks do you reckon most ruckmen take?
gus averaged about 1 a game last year, which put him about 8th or so amongst ruckmen.

Hmmm, now where have I heard that cliche used on PRE before?
I have no idea where you have heard it before.

Vickery is a 20 year old 3rd year big man , still developing his body and learning to be a ruckman. He shows good movement and to me looks a likely type to develop into a very good player .

That's not a cliche , its an opinion . Clearly its not up to the intellectual level of "Vickery is not a footballers *smile*." ;D

Clearly Gus is being used as Number 1 Ruckman as Vickery's body is not ready for the constant body work that a ruckman is involved in and the other two blokes are not considered good enough by the coaching panel yet.
Gus will need a break soon as he has done a helluva lotta bullocking work in the ruck.
He's no star but he's the best we've got at the moment.
I'm happy with his efforts this year and so must the Coaches be as he keeps getting picked.

Roosy's assessment of Gus was particularly damning during the call. In Gus' defence we have won the taps in the last 2 games. Gus needs someone to improve a) his fitness b) his ability to leap and c) his ability to take marks around the ground and then not dish off to someone who is then under the pump because he doesn't shepherd.

Some really ordinary and uneducated comments on this thread. To call him the worst player on our list is just so wrong it's not funny. Clearly the coaches see him as better than the three other ruckmen on our list.

I have watched him very closely the past two weeks and he has actually wona lot of centre bounces and tapped to good spots. There was one in particular in the Pies game where the ball was headed to a tiger chest but a magpie mid ran harder to get in front. This sort of thing ain't the ruckmans fault.

Have seen him take a number of overhead marks, clearly not a strength, but then again a lot of ruckmen bring the ball to ground in pack situations.

He will be passed in time, but is the best we have atm. Vickery is gonna be more a forward than a ruck, Xman - who knows and nothing I have seen from Browne (afl games only) suggest he will be any good.

Far bigger concerns than the big burger at this stage.

Ordinary perhaps, uneducated though? Not sure how you can draw that on people. They can have their opinions without them being called uneducated - what is educated in your opinion, AFL Senior coach level 1, 2, 3?

But I agree Angus has improved his tap work, clearly Lade is finally getting through, there were some surprisingly good ones in the second half after Tv went off.

Uneducated in relation to him being called the worst player on the list. Just ridiculous. not too often that a Senior coach would play the worst player on the list as his number one ruck.
Typical herd mentality: everyone says he is sh!t so he must be.

Just peeves me when people make such over the top statements to push a preconception rather than make a reasonable assessment.
