All good and well there Big Nige....

You think the guy has the potential to be part of a successful Richmond team of the future ....... thats cool, I personally don't see it and thats just my own opinion, we can agree to disagree on that subject.

There are athletic/agile types playing the Ruck game these days mate, the Ottens, Sandilands, Jolly's, Cox's are no mugs at getting around the field and younger guns such as Kreuzer, Naitanui and even this Mumford kid are showing that large doesn't necessarily mean methodical and slow.

Finally something we can agree on ;D

But the first lot of ruck you mention are all 26-30 age bracket and at their peak

Kreuz and nic nat are top 3 picks and I'm not sure that mumford is exactly a whippet around the ground.

Not to say that Gus is Methodical and slow, he seems to cover ground well and, on the first couple of games, a fair amount of it.

I've never said that gus is the best ruckman in the league but he has the tools to do the job more than adequately when he matures.

As an old ruckman I like to see young ones mature like Jamar et al who everyone thought were not worth a cracker. I have a funny feeling Gus will surprise a few by the time he's finished.

I mentioned those players above Nige to stress my point that not all big guys playing AFL are robotictic in their motions.

I too would love too see nothing different than yourself, afterall, we do both barrack for and desire the same thing right ?....a successful football club to follow and be proud to call "our team".

I'll be interested to see how Gus goes the rest of this season and maybe we can have another discussion on his situation then.

Alright alright, Kiss and make up you two,

Enjoyable debate and read that one but haven't you two got bloody jobs to do instead of being on this site during work hours!

Unlike me reading this and comenting at work purley for research purposes only

Sunday here mate...........not that that would slow me down from being on here !

Don't think anyone needs to see 2 old blokes "kissing' and making up", but I hear ya.

Nige and I just see things a little differently on this bloke, nothing unusual there, we all see different things in all players I'm sure and let our emotions speak on our behalf, which may occasionally come across in the wrong light.
Thats OK, we all want the same thing at the end of the day when we stop long enough to think about it.

i think you will find we did use our rookie list 5 years ago on a ruckman. Gus.

you are the only person i have seen who thinks Brown and Wood carved Graham up. The only one. And considering the many who dont rate him, and would be more than willing to say if they thought, that is saying something.

Can anyone name a worse first choice ruckman than Graham in the league? Anyone who tries might find themselves getting a headache.

One ruckman on the rookie list over 5 years is hardly loading up now is it.

Yeah, surprise us just how he managed to stay on an AFL list for so long!!! :hihi :hihi

Now dont get all sooky, bit of banter.

I watched Gus' game tonight and it just confirmed my earlier thoughts. He's just not up to it and is only getting a game because we don't have a viable alternative at the moment. He did not have one decisive hitout all game. The only ones that went to a Richmond player at the centre bounce went backwards and usually to a contest. He has no awareness of his opponent at boundary throw-ins, usually gets caught behind and gives away too many frees and rarely takes a grab over head. Can you imagine how effective this midfield would be roving to a quality ruckman. This is our major deficiency, we need two decent rucks and Angus isn't one of them.

i'm actually gonna defend gus here. he has taken a hell of a lot of the load when it comes to ruck duties. while he has probably been a factor in our lack of clearances so far, but has toiled really hard considering his lack of support.

Graham actually seems to be getting better each week.

Sure he's come off a low base but he has only played 37 games.

Had to shake my head when the ball was coming deep into defensive 50 and I think it was just him and petrie or hanson, instead of watching the ball, he turned his back on it to watch the north player then simply threw his hands in the air when he thought the ball was due to drop.

Has he EVER taken a contested overhead mark?

Yes, he's taken some good contested and uncontested marks this year.

What he does need are more midfielders running past him for handball receives.

And I am sure that all of your 6942 posts have been gems ::)Getting back on topic.19 marks in 5 games,201cm.Contested overhead????Enlighten me oh wonderous one.

I thought Grahams game today was below par.

Yeah maybe having to take on too much of the Ruck work is taking its toll.

I thought he was ordinary tonight and I think that he and the other ruckmen are one of several weak links in the side.

Thought Angus was quite bad tonight. He is just too slow. I know Vickery got subbed off, but I thought he was bad when the game started TBH.

My major gripe's with him is his speed and his inability to size up his options down the field. Takes a mark and instantly waits for someone to handball to behind him. Fair enough, he may not be comfortable with his kicking, but he needs to look for a better option than someone in the same position that he is in. He needs to TURN AROUND. When he wants to kick it really isn't that bad.

He also is really bad below his knees.

Actually he does take a few good contested mark's, have seen him take quite a few. Wouldn't criticise him for that.

Geez Gus wasn't great, thought he held his own though.
He was stuffed midway through the 3rd....he toiled on....when he really need a breather.

He's no world beater but our best option, cut him some slack.

Good to have another player who can compete 120 minutes

but i agree, in this climate, lets play him down
