Andrew 'Mini' McQualter

I don’t know who the next coach will be. All I want is a coach that places extremely high value on defensive pressure, fast and accurate ball movement complimented by a high quality skill level.

Chaos ball died at the end of 2020. The game has changed irrevocably and we have been left behind. We have too many butchers on our list and it has killed us the last 3 seasons. We turn the ball over too much and continually blow great opportunities in our forward 50 with poor decisions and worse execution.

Unfortunately it will take some time but we need to start immediately. The list needs to be cleansed of butchers and that can’t be done in one off season. But the sooner we start the better off we will be. High quality disposal, especially kicking, needs to be the priority of our recruiting. Defensive pressure can be taught and trained by the new coach and his team.

For whatever reason Mini has followed a plan of no change until today.
Very happy with what we finally saw and our performance reflects again that he has the players support.
Love his willingness to take on problems and experiment when required.
Unpopular decisions are also part of the job. We are going to need a bit more of the same over the next few years and some who might feel hard done by are going to be released or traded.

Newman and others well qualified but Mini the winner on points.

This. Hope the club is seeking a coach that can best implement the above.

Stephen Milne bounce from being a premiership player
Yes, the poor ol’ Santers, serial losers. As TTT said what exactly are we supposed to be impressed about? I’m normally positive about our new coaches, even Frawley, although that came down to a choice between him and Royal, but I can’t see anything at all about McQualter as a coach that makes me think he’ll be a good one. Some are meant to be assistants, he’s one of them.

Interesting comments. Statistically we scored 55 less goals than last year, and let 33 more goals kicked against us.That is a massive turnaround in one season. Why?Certainly injury and age was a big factor in the forward line. The backline not so much IMO.For me the biggest letdown was our midfield which clearly misfired . Having an interim coach forced upon the club also did not help.
Is Mini the one?Think I would like a premiership coach to take us back to glory.

How about youth?

Mini has played in awful teams (Gold Coast) , played in Grand final Teams (Saints), been Assistant at awful teams (Tigers 2016) and assistant at a great team - 2017 onwards. Pretty well rounded when add his tough 13 week apprenticeship

But has not tasted premiership success.

As a coach he speaks well after a loss; and the club might be anticipating a lot of that style of speaking.

I wonder whether Simpson has applied?
Disappear Homer Simpson GIF

He did under the name of Homer hoping no one noticed

One thing I am happy about is he has given a few kids the chance. A thing I am unhappy about he kept picking players out of form or clearly carrying an injury . Not sure he is the answer so would prefer a new broom head coach and assistants
