Andrew 'Mini' McQualter

Nice intel if true.

I saw Mini at a recent function & he was super impressive.
Would like to see how he goes with his own ideas rather than an implemented game plan.

Unlike others I would not discount him one bit.
What game plan would he have though? He hasn’t been anywhere else and had no reason to do any different to what Dimma told him for last 12 years. If he does conjure up his own plan, he would never have tested it

Depends if the individual can analyse and understand what the better clubs do and implement a game plan / game style to counter and outplay them. Don't think you need to be at another club to do this if you have the footy smarts awareness analytical skills and can read trends of the game. I wouldn't discount Mini the same way I wouldn't guarantee him the job had we made finals. Would love to be a fly on the wall listening to what his and other candidates philosophies on the game going forward are.

Club 80?
I don’t think we are seeing the real game Plan.
Ross Lyon wanted Mini, Ross is no fool.

I can imagine, we get Carter, Antman and Dyer for example...
There'd be a near punch on at selection when someone wants to send Nank to the reserves, but the pre-game and quarter time addresses would be equally inspiring, amusing and confusing to the list.
Between the three of us I think we get it done!

Antman and I can cut oranges while the great man becomes the first coach to inspire a flag through pure poetry alone.

The biggest challenge is if the board and Benny think we are a chance at a tilt in the next 2 years. They will make the wrong call. Success has a way of self delusion. It's happened before and will happen again.
The right coach for the RFC is the one who says we need a complete rebuild from the bottom up. It will either happen now or in 3 years after the next coach fails to deliver a finals spot.
I don’t think we believe that , the good news is we have experienced list management that have done it before, those that have rebuilt before us can’t say the same

If it's still Mini after the losses because he presented the best vision to the selection committee and was the best communicator, so be it. But, if it's him, he needs new ideas and support structures around him. At least 2 or 3 new assistants, new S&C team,

Specialised development coaches - we need to dust off [email protected] @ Football Education

Who do you want? Carr, Grigg, perhaps Yze? Where have they tested theirs? You’d have to say the bloke that learnt under 3 premiership coach should have had a decent apprenticeship. He could have plenty of ideas to renew or evolve. Process hopefully evaluates that. I wouldn’t discount him. We’ve had an unprecedented series of pineapples up our clack this year. Not sure any caretaker could’ve navigated this.

We may not be seeing a game plan but we’re seeing a team that is second to the ball and getting smashed in the first qtr having to play catch up footy
Ross may  Mini Dimma he can have him
Mini Dimma may be a great assistant but has shown nothing as caretaker coach

Also shouldn't underestimate the value of the VFL coach to drive development and depth within the group. Fly's ability to develop players in the 2nd's had a huge impact on our list over the golden years. With all due respect to Morro, I'm not sure he's at the same level.

Isn’t this only Morro’s second year in the job? Hasn’t exactly been surrounded by real quality, either.

Now that Mini is the coach going forward hopefully his able to land Lenny Hayes as his 2ic which he presented to the committee

True. But if McQualter's body of work to date is sufficient to make a call on his prospects, then you'd have to say the same for Morris.

Don't get me wrong - I totally get that the job of a VFL coach is bloody difficult what with your AFL listed players floating in and out of the team, suburban top-ups, differing levels of professionalism and so forth. That's why I prefer to look at player development rather than overall win/loss as my VFL measuring stick.

And I rekcon that whether it's Morro, or his support staff, or the environment, or the culture, the cattle on the park, or whatever - the player development in the VFL team has dropped off significantly over the last couple of seasons.

Anyway, probably the wrong thread for that discussion. I guess I'm coming around to the idea that these days it's your whole-of-club structure that determines your success as much if not more than the guy sitting in the head coach role.

Agree here.
but for every Fly there is another Fly out there.
let’s go and get this person.

Caretaking is like renting. You’re living in the joint but can’t do any renovations, can’t really infuse the place with much of your personality.

It’s a mug’s game and Mini was pretty brave to take it on.

Our playing list is jaded, unfocused, unmotivated. In addition to Chimp and Jack, I think Grub should go too.

The list ain’t as bright as we might’ve hoped now that we’re on the other side of the mountain. The kids are OK without being luminously brilliant. Things will get worse before they get better.

Even if Mini only serves to ride the coming bump and set us up for the future, I’m all for it.

Play the kids, load up on tasty draft picks. It’s the only way forward. Mini might not survive more than three years but at the very least will provide a stable platform to launch from.

In essence, Clarke and Hartley are the true heavy lifters of the coming period.

Our head coach doesn’t need to be a tactical genius, just an effective teacher.

Maybe we should get 50 cent out or whatever his name is to coach us. He seems to have a very fertile imagination. Not sure about being a genius, maybe more 'one flew over the cuckoo's nest' but it would make for a wild ride (albeit a very short one) that's for sure

Na I'll pass thanks I wouldn't put the long suffering supporters through that misery

I don't have the required skill set to coach the modern game I still yell at the tv during a game

I'll let the big boy mini do the job je is employed to do over the next 3 years
