I think Mini has been impressive.
Speaks well - forthright, with minimal footy cliche`s unlike his predecessor, and with an obvious good footy brain.
He has got the team playing well - indeed, better than they were under Dimma.
He has been unafraid to move the magnets during a game, and generally to good effect.
His team selection has been good overall.
The players appear to like him.
All in all, a quality candidate.
But as several posters have alluded to, is continuity the be all and end all, and really what we want?
I think our list has some serious deficiencies that are sheeted home to Blair (sub optimal planning) and Matthew Clarke (sub optimal selection).
(lack of quality young midfielders, Brown over Van Rooyan, etc etc).
The appointment of an "outside" coach like a Josh Carr is tempting as a catalyst for a disruption to the current group think.
List cloggers get analysed more critically by a new "outside" guy that has three years to shape the team, and needs to make big decisions around his first draft.
People mocked Kane Cornes comment last week that Hawthorn were closer to a premiership than Richmond, but they might be rethinking it this week.
Sam Mitchell made some brave calls last year and turned over players that were not going to be around for the next premiership tilt.
The revered Richmond culture is perhaps encouraging us to potentially hang on to some of our players too long and overestimate others?
There is a complacency to our List Management that perhaps a new outside coach could reinvigorate.
If it's continuity the club are after, and they do like stability, then Mini's going to get the nod.
I respect Mini and I reckon he'd continue to do a good job.
But given my view on our list, and hence the likely outlook for the next few years, I can't help thinking that a fresh start with an outside coach might be best for the playing group, the Football Department and the club.
