Andrew 'Mini' McQualter

Just watched Mini's post game interview and he definitely has a hard edge I haven't seen before when speaking, I now don't get the impression he is all smiles and cuddles behind close doors.
That day after Dimma left, Mini and the players all had lunch together (at a pub?) explaining what happened and he told off some players on how bad they play.

I think Mini has been impressive.
Speaks well - forthright, with minimal footy cliche`s unlike his predecessor, and with an obvious good footy brain.
He has got the team playing well - indeed, better than they were under Dimma.
He has been unafraid to move the magnets during a game, and generally to good effect.
His team selection has been good overall.
The players appear to like him.
All in all, a quality candidate.

But as several posters have alluded to, is continuity the be all and end all, and really what we want?

I think our list has some serious deficiencies that are sheeted home to Blair (sub optimal planning) and Matthew Clarke (sub optimal selection).
(lack of quality young midfielders, Brown over Van Rooyan, etc etc).

The appointment of an "outside" coach like a Josh Carr is tempting as a catalyst for a disruption to the current group think.
List cloggers get analysed more critically by a new "outside" guy that has three years to shape the team, and needs to make big decisions around his first draft.

People mocked Kane Cornes comment last week that Hawthorn were closer to a premiership than Richmond, but they might be rethinking it this week.
Sam Mitchell made some brave calls last year and turned over players that were not going to be around for the next premiership tilt.

The revered Richmond culture is perhaps encouraging us to potentially hang on to some of our players too long and overestimate others?
There is a complacency to our List Management that perhaps a new outside coach could reinvigorate.

If it's continuity the club are after, and they do like stability, then Mini's going to get the nod.
I respect Mini and I reckon he'd continue to do a good job.

But given my view on our list, and hence the likely outlook for the next few years, I can't help thinking that a fresh start with an outside coach might be best for the playing group, the Football Department and the club.

Agree 17. We can have faith on the club to look at every area and be sure who'd be best. I reckon the Dorks will breakout next season just like Adelaide have this season.

Mini will be a good coach, but not for us. The hardwick influence is still present.... the Richmond method is proven but when missing a couple of top players, it doesn't cope well on short grounds and short kicking. This is the same that occurred against the suns. The saints will play this way as well. The fact, he didn't instruct the players after they were four goals down in the first quarter to play one on one is a worry for me. or double team "bont" until the first quarter. Our coach next year will be one who is not influenced by Hardwick and will make the hard call on players.

Imo McQualter has been on a hiding to nothing being the interim coach. Sure he's won a lot of games & also badly lost some too, but he could only run with a game plan that was already in place. He was restricted in what changes he could implement.

We don't know what changes he'd make to the playing list, game plan, support staff ( including the conditioning staff) etc etc.

Surely that'll be a big part of his presentation at his interview.

If the selection committee are impressed with his presentation over & above other candidates, he'll get the job.
At this stage we don't know who are the other candidates.
Hopefully we get an idea soon so we can speculate/discuss the relative merits of of each of them all.

But I must say that I'm trusting the process & looking forward to the outcome.

Mini will be a good coach, but not for us. The hardwick influence is still present....
but it's going to be - Mini at RFC 10 years? under Dimma.. something will rub off..

but not all .. Mini is in a weird situation all things considered and finding his own feet, which he has already done to a degree,
will take a preseason..
Who knows if he gets the gig? the club might have different ideas
but as 17 says above, he's a good candidate who will have his own notions on how to stamp his own style
he'd have to, otherwise why be a coach?

I was liking what I was reading and then " Kane Cornes comment last week"

you read or listened to Cornes ? the click bait Olympian

Can we have an intern coach to replace McQualter??
He is bad
When we get beaten we get smashed. At least Hardwick kept the slappings to once ir twice a year.

Well, Fangs is gonna be on AFL360 soon. Mr Magoo will ask him all the tough questions.

“Is it true you were one of Ross Lyon’s favourites ?”

“Do you speak to Dimma much ?”

“Do you like Marvel Stadium ? I think it’s great.”

Whatever they decide to do with the coach I hope they are putting some serious time into rennovating and re tooling the fitness and conditioning department my god what a disaster the past couple of seasons.

Blobbo spurting out the obvious. Well done Drof for noticing the Dracula coach we have and his fangs. No one else noticed it yet?

That was pretty tense. Brad Scott has gone up a level in my estimation !
How's that moment of silence. Instead of Wimpy to break the ice, Blobbo ups the ante. You can see even Mini gives that stern face to Blobbo.

And then Scott gives him another backhander later on. Hah hah hah….**** he’s a moron. An utter imbecile. Gary Lyin was right. He’s a media and journo embarrassment.

Needs to go to keep this show going.

You were right Red. Blobbo asked the obvious Marvel question. But Mini handles it very well. It wasn’t the ground but our inability to handle the heat.
