Andrew 'Mini' McQualter

What I like about Mini his doing the basics right something Dimma over complicated for me. Players in there natural positions and playing to there strengths and he is not afraid to use a tag or make moves , I forgot what game was it Graham tagged someone.

The previous time Cooney recognised a tactical shift was when his local milk bar closed down and reopened as a hipster cafe.

He is more rocket surgeon than tactical genius.

Maybe so but I think his observations have some merit. He’s not the first “expert” to go with the theory that McQualter is coaching for today.

Even Hutchy (I know, I know) has ruled a line through McQualter’s chances of getting the job as he believes the players are having a “sugar hit” of the new coach, pressures off scenario and that some of the positional changes he’s made are unsustainable (he used Cotchy in the middle as one example) and doing nothing for the future of the team.

I’m glad we have Benny and Balme in charge as we work our way through the new coach process as if we get in wrong it could set us back 5 years or more.

The way I see it is mini is making the moves that are winning us games
thought that’s what he’s supposed to do instead of writing off a season going into development mode when we’re a chance to play finals

Aren’t you supposed to do both?

If you don’t have one eye on the future you end up condemning the club to a period like Hawthorn are going through at the minute.

His test will come next week against the Lions.

No team has won coming off a bye yet.

Win that and we just might play finals.

I thought ( personally ) that the hope of that after the loss to Essendon and Dimmas ‘retirement” was gone.

One week , oops game at a time.

Cooney’s theory seems really dumb

What kids are we denying atm?

We have a good mix right now and the rest are playing good footy in the VFL

Plus, we don’t have a first round pick and finals are live for club champions in Jack and Chimp

I’m all for future development but Mini has the alchemy just right

Well Cooney found it difficult to know the difference between a cheezel and a diamond ring. So that says a lot.
I agree with your assessment

It sounds as if Dimma will be coaching again , if his fresh and keen , wonder if it’s possible he comes home ?

Personally I’m happy to move on towards a new dynasty wether it be with Mini in charge or someone else

He proves you can be a star player without having much idea of the game

Maybe he thinks we should be trying to get GWS a top 5 pick?

I think making a run to the finals will do more for the development of some of the up and coming talent at the club than anything else. Go for it Mini!

Another though on Cotch's move back to engines.
Didnt it happen when Hopper went out, limping?
So its not like Mini shifted a kid out to get the old fella back on the ball.

Narrative that Mini is playing the old guys as a short term fix. Nah.
