Even Graham's most ardent fans would struggle to pick out anything in his kit bag that is even remotely elite.

Gus has an elite President with an elite Gus Bus avatar. That's a hell of a lot more elite tricks than the Mullet.

Seriously though, why does Gus need to have some elite skills ? No one has claimed, seriously, that he's AA material but he has shown that he can play well in the seniors. The problem is that his best and worst games are so far apart that you sometimes wonder if it's the same player. If having the Mullet at the club has made for more competition at the club, then great. But I think it's too early to write off Gus just yet, especially when he is dominating at VFL level.

Yes there are actually. Graham V Mumford is a laughable comparison to make.

But if there is no reason as you say (surely some clubs will see that as well) it will be interesting to see what interest Graham attracts come end of year. 4 year deal coming up?

Do you understand the distinction between something being likely and there being no reason it can't happen? Angus Graham's best game of AFL was very good. If he could take that form and make it his benchmark, he'd have done a Mumford. Very unlikely as I've said a couple fo times (do you read all these threads?) but not impossible as the Mumford example proves.

Like SCOOP you also struggle with the definition of "comparison". I didn't compare them as players at all, except to say that they're both ruckman.

Over $250K a year for a rookie listed ruckman is a lot of unplanned money on your salary cap at the end of year when you have Geelongs list. They would have been rightly bulging.

They were blindsided at the end of season & as Balme said at the time simply couldnt match it, so wanting to keep him had very little bearing on the matter.

Rubbish. They could have traded Blake and kept Mumford no problem whatsoever. As it turns out Mumford could have easily been Geelong's number one ruck since the trade occured. All they had to do was promise him the spot and find him $250k a year, which is roughly an average wage in the AFL isn't it?

Sydney have an excellent eye for developing talent, they can spot a bargain a mile away.

Sydney get an over the op wrap in this area largely on the back of Mumford and Kennedy and perhaps Richards. No one seems to mention Bradshaw, Spangher, Playfair, Morton, Andreas Everitt, Peter Everitt, Spriggs, Brennan etc.

You neglected to mention quite a few others there jimbob.
Jolly, C Bolton, Mattner, McGlynn, Shaw, B Hall, N Davis, P Williams & Seaby etc. have all been good/solid contributors after coming from other clubs.
They've played a heck of a lot of finals over the years. Must have been doing something right.

And the biggest name of all - N. Daffy!

Fiar enough. Many of those were good players already.

His ruckwork on the Coburg highlights was brilliant. Gave Majak Daw a footy lesson.

Much prefer him playing over Gus.

Got a fair wrap too from Mellor. ;)

Reckon the Bus will have made it's last stop.

If Maric doesn't come up, reckon we'll see the big Jaffa promoted.

Don't put too much faith in the Coburg reports. Gus's reports this year have been consistently full of praise and talk of pushing hard for AFL selection than Browne has this year.

Gus was, by far, a better ruckman than Browne was last year.

But as has been said by some for a long long time Browne will be a better ruckman in the future, that has been plain to see. & he is no certainty to make it.

Choosing between Browne and Graham. Like choosing between the firing squad or the gallows.
