Not convinced Grimes and especially Astbury are the key defenders we need.

*smile* and Thursty def need to be shown the door. Both just treading water IMO and are not even back up defenders.

Never said they were. However I think Grimes will certainly make it. All I am saying is that Thursty couldn't get in the team when Grimes was playing and *smile* was dropped during the seasons and Astbury had certainly improved and was on the way up until he was injured. *smile* and Thursty are now the only two fit tall backman we have (with the exception of Post) and hence they will both play.

has been impressive IMO under extreme duress this year

he does still make the odd bad mistake, but his improvement should be encouragement enough for us to say he has been great this year

top 3 B&F worthy i would think

I've held off for fear of going early and jinxing the kid but well done Alex. At the moment one of the few joys about watching the tiges is Alex give it everything at full back.

Making so many more spoils even when the contest looks lost. Has worked on his strength and body positioning and his rebounding is solid. Still has a way to go but excellent improvement.

Not over the line yet but playing well enough to make me look like a goose. Congrats Rancey!

One of the small pleasures in watching Richmond over recent seasons is seeing the steady improvement in youngsters like Jaaaack, Cotch , Dusty, Rancealot and High Def.
Plenty more younguns like Willie the Concareter, Batch, #*+>**%$#ing Hell big, Griff,Assa and Grimey Grub to watch develop.

It's the only thing that makes suffering through the season bearable. Once we get some proper gametime into the core youngsters we can look forward to more competitive outcomes during games.

Still has areas in his game to round out but leysy will say one thing - Along with Chimp they are just about the only players that leave it all on the field.

Yeah, watched Rance close up during the Essendon game and was impressed with his defensive improvement, and especially with his intensity and ability to switch into attack-mode. A nice quality he has is not sitting on his heels - he is a hard runner, can react quickly and is able to make things happen.

Probably the main thing to work on is he can be a bit clumsy, or over-zealous at times and give away free kicks. You know, nothing that Silvagni didn't get away with for about 15 years but in today's hyper-technical umpiring regime he gets pinged.

Of course, like many of our developing players he is being asked to play a bigger role than he's probably ready for at the moment.

I really thought he was another in the long list of drafting mistakes.

Me too Streak but he has been one of the few bright spots in what is turning into another dark season.

He was excellent yesterday, and given the strides he has made so far this season, it gives me confidence that he will iron out some of the other little chinks in his game. Still only a pup, which is something many (me included) tend to overlook on occasions.

And a timely reminder that young players need pre-seasons and game experience. That goes for a huge proportion of our list.

He was very very good yesterday . What impressed me the most was his ability to get to a contest when i thought he was not going to get there . He did it 4-5 times .

Geez his come from a long way back, credit too the lad, improves half as much again an gets some help down there an we will start to improve....Our best key defender

Well it also kind of helps when he actually looks like an AFL footballer - that is, the physique of one.

Was embarrassing watching that game on the weekend...even Ocker juniors have started to question why we're as a collective so much smaller that all other teams - what can you say?

It was like watching the under 14's versus the seniors.

Thank god for Rance I say.
If he wasn't playing it would've been a 15-16 goal thumping for certain (not that it really matters now eh?).

Made a couple of mistakes but geez he's improving. Has been a genuine highlight this season.
Well played Alex.

Yeah he is baring a heavy load back there.. Gets very little help. He is tough in the contest and always gives his all. Even some of the eagle fans were commenting on some of his last second efforts to save a goal. Will be a hell of a player once he has some solid players around him and a few years more experience.

Heaps of good spoils and other bits of good play and you choose to highlight one mistake. Says it all.

He's top 3 in our B&F!
Without doubt our biggest improver in 2011.
Take a bow Sir Rancealot.

Has really improved, but Richmond improved. For a key defender does make some basic errors, miss's punch's, his kicking has improved, the thing that still gets me is that he needs to stand straight up!
I am happy with? Yes, has improved, but can heaps better. Currently reminds me of the flog at hawthorn Gibson!

God our backline gets put under the pump by our midfield and forwards.

Almost every centre bounce results in an opposition forward 50 entry. It's ridiculous. What wouldn't Jack give together the ball coming in the way we let other sides bring it in.

Rance still makes mistakes, but so would most given how often the ball is down there.

He has been one of the shining lights in what is turning into yet another disappointing year.

Our backline could have Doull, Silvagni, Dench, Scarlett, Fletcher and Bourke and it would still be under the pump from our non-competitive midfield.

Our list management is shocking!
To not have a ruckman of even C grade quality on our list is obscene.
Today's game was the final straw for Angus Graham, he's a dud.
