Alex Rance

I only saw the first half but I thought he was outstanding today in very difficult circumstances.

When teams are getting flogged players go into survival mode and only pick up their opponents. But Alex has fought than trend, he is endlessly helping out his teammates by sprinting to contests to be the third man in.

We shows true leadership, not the cheap kind of giving rah rah speeches when the teams up, but the valuable kind that doesn't give up when the chips are against him.

Agree, I think he's definitely a keeper for the future, if only a few others could replicate his endeavor.

Whilst Rancey has holes in his game that you could drive a truck through at least he has game unlike McGuane and Jackson who are just horrible. Keep up the good work Alex.

Has gone from a dud to our best defender in 12 months. He's still only a kid and will get better with experience.

Keeping Podsiadly goalless despite a torrent of inside 50's, and coming off 8 goals on Maguire, is a real credit to Rance. Get Carlile and the pieces will fall into place for our defence in 2012.

Funny that people easily forget Grimes and Astbury are injured and would be playing in front of *smile* and Thursty. They would rather just pay out on Dimma, the RFC, etc.

I thought he busted a gut today. I was dissappointed with 'After the bounce'. They highlighted a missed spoil of his, which was in our forward half, which geelong ended up getting a goal. They emaphasized how bad it was etc etc. They didn't comment on how he dtill chased, followed up and tried to harrass the cats players. It was a bit harsh when there were free cats players and nothing was said about where their opponents were

Don't accept the "dud" part of your comment - but agree with the rest

Agree, our best six defenders have rarely made it on the park together this year. All it demonstrates is our lack of depth which is a result of a history of poor recruiting - hardly the current coach's fault.

Glad you kept the faith Tenacious. I really thought he was another in the long list of drafting mistakes.

Astbury couldn't get a game in front of McGuane. Thought Astbury was disappointing in the early part of the year.

Agree with this. Don't understand how people think Astbury will be an automatic start up as one of our key backmen. From what I saw at the start of the year he was deplorable and looked completely lost playing down back. I would put him in front of McGuane (which is not saying much, lets be honest), but still behind Thursfield.

Well done on your efforts this year and improvements Alex, still a lot of work to do but geez least the kid has verve, energy, hits the contests and competes.

Plenty of limp team mates who hes shown up recently.

Not convinced Grimes and especially Astbury are the key defenders we need.

*smile* and Thursty def need to be shown the door. Both just treading water IMO and are not even back up defenders.

Said it on the Rich V Geel matchday thread but he really should be one of the favorites for the B&F, considering the avalanche of ball coming into our back 50 this year.

Yes he still makes the odd error but he has improved out of sight & busts a gut, & that's all you can ask for in a player.

Look's like he heads in the gym a bit too, might want to talk mcgaune into coming with him.

yeah, Rance has 2 hard off-season in the gym and he looks like a footballer.

McGuane and Edwards have been at the club for 6 and 7 years and are still built like Japanese schoolgirls.

I was thinking along the same lines. He's looking good for a top 3 finish
