took some strong overhead marks today. Thought he stood up. Not much he could do with the ball flying in like it did. Rance is a positive

Agree a rare positive on a dark day for our club. Him, Riewoldt and possibly Nahas were ok. Riewoldt best from limited opportunities. Rance I am glad had a gaood game as I am a big fan and have a lot of respect for the way he goes about it. The lack of midfield pressure makes his job tougher.

Really suprised how little has been made of Moore's season absence.

I'm not. Moore does not have any impact upon a game. Yes he plays and tries and get some good touches, but he will never impact on a result "Moore really turned the game today when it was there to be won" is not a sentence you will hear from a sobre person with intact brain and sight.

And he's got a lot of mates at the club too

Rance is one of the few who can hold his head up today. This year could well be the making of him.

Absolutely agree............. People certainly have short memories. He's not a star as doesn't offer any more than Rance. Young Rance does need help help however, and he's not going to get it from McGuane or Thirsty.

Had a dip today, didn't burn the pill when we had it.

And the backs were doomed today.

Rance is doing well. Is earning more and more respect. WHo would have thought by end of the season he will finish as our number 1 backman...

agree. Mind you his lack of awareness around him is still a worry.

Fair enough call mate but to be fair to Rance our options further up the field are woeful at best so it's no wonder our back men cough it up so often. I reckon his disposal has improved though.

Was one of only a few who can hold their heads up high.

With the amount of ball coming into our defensive 50 he did extremely wel.

The bloke needs help though. Until we get another decent tall next to him then they bloke will be playing a lone hand each week.

Just a question if I may ....

Did he play on Waite for most of the game or did he a Thursty trade off ?

If so, then having your opponent take 13 marks isn't indicative of having a good day as a "defenseman" first and foremost.

Not trying to be negative towards the kid and I also understand the amount of ball our backline has to put up with, but why can a case be made blaming the mid's for NOT doing their job effectively enough for when Runsalot gets beaten, yet another bloke (Thursty) is totally flamed for his performance ?

Not sure I see awhole lot of difference !

Post had him for most of the third if I recall.

They swapped a bit. Rance started on him but they both spent time on him. Post spent some time on him.

Rance was very good in the first half but was basically overwhelmed in the 2nd.

Okey Dokey, Thanks boy's................

Haven't watched all the game as yet, but in that 3rd Q alone it looked like Runsalot was his opponenet for the majority and he got outmarked in 1 on 1's on at least a few occasions.

Yep, Post started on him at the beginning of the 4th from what I can tell.............man, 13 marks is a good day at the office for anyone let alone a bloke in his firts game back in what ...a month ?

JF, I'm sure you noticed they served it up to waite on a plate on most occasions, carltons forward 50 looked like green acres, land spreadin'out so far and wide, and with Murphy and simpson poppin

the pill into him , it became absolute silver service. And yes, I do think it was lack of midfield pressure that allowed the time and space for these guys to impersonate Hermes. Alex battled manfully all

day, and didn't lower his colours, all we could ask for in a developing backman. Every time he left the field he was spent, and he didn't stop until the final siren.

Up the other end, Carlton flooded huge amounts of players into our forward line, whenever we haphazardly moved the ball forward. Stark contrast.

Will for whatever reason was abysmal. His only weapon in his game, his spoil, was non- existant on at least 3-4 one on one occasions when he should have had his opponent cold, and the ball

really
was just begging to be cleared. If you can't take the ball, get some body on the opponent at least. Will did niether, and was hardly in the contest.

very true

True, that holding the ball at about the 5 min mark of the 1st where he just ran along as though no-one else was on the field....

Have noticed that his overhead marking has improved dramatically this year.

That was one thing I hated about his game (along with a few other areas). He would always jump vertically with his arms straight as bats above his head, and he would NEVER mark it. Most of the time it looked like he would fall over too.

Now i've noticed that he jumps at the ball, and is much stronger once the ball hits his hands. Still not overly convincing, but there's been definite improvement there too.

Yes leysy was critical of his overhead ability also Jinx. It was a weakness in his game.

Since Minson played his one good game for the year & got hold of Alex he has improved markedy in this area.

Gone from taking no contested grabs to starting to clunk a few in recent weeks for the first time in his career.

Still has a ways to go, mainly with his consistency & still too many brain fades. But thus far its been a good year Alex.
