Alex Rance

Best Full Back effort for the Tiges since Gas was playing.
Excellent run out of defence and his kicking skills have really improved.
Great effort so far this year hope he can keep going.

I just love his flexibility. In Grimes and Rance you have guys who can be competitive against talls but absolutely dominate the mid sized flankers in the air and on the lead because they give up nothing in speed and athleticism. Wasn't tested much with high kick ins which was due to our midfield pressure (and poor Essendon play) so it played perfectly into his hands where he could just sprint off the big guys. If this guy gets better with the high ball coming in then look out. Will just wear out forwards having to chase his butt all day and he sprints off them.

This Rancid kid is another real surprise packet. That was a great game. Looks the real deal.

Rance came of age last night.
I never rated him but I'm glad to eat a big slice of humble pie.
Hope he keeps it up.

Agree.
He is a good example when it comes to making early and incorrect calls on players.
I didn't rate him either,
But it also shows that early calls on blokes like Graham, Browne, Post, King, Nahas etc - can so easily be proven wrong.

Yes Rance played a wonderful game last night. That bit of play in the 3rd term when we were under the pump and he charged out at centre-half back, grabbed the pill, fended off a tackle and then chipped short (not sure who to) to turn a Bomber attack into a Tiger attack in the blink of an eye was simply sensational.

Congrats not only to Alex for his form this year, but to the coaches who have worked with him and given him the tools and confidence to be a solid AFL player.

Who did he think he was Geoff Southby??
that wasnt Rance, that was a look alike.. He actually stood up and didnt fall over

New benchmark from Rance now.

Expecting this or near it every week.

On the telecast they cut to Rance after the siren. While his team mates we're celebrating, he was bent over trying to catch his breath. He left nothing at all out there last night. Very gutsy effort.

The kid has come a long way. Has that weird balance of now playing like a poised player and a chicken that has lost his head. I like how hard he hits the ball, but I wet myself when he's about to dispose of it.
But hey. I wet myself everytime McGuane goes near it too!
Reminds me of A.Kellaway.

Was Rance the one that took that mark running back?
And I think Jack said somewhere that he leads with his head.

Could be the muscle in the backline to work with Inspector Gadget Grimes for years to come.

Alex is #1 in the league for time on ground % for the season. 100%. Deserves a huge pat on the back for that.

He is a good lesson to those who write players off early in their careers. I've always been a fan and thought with hard work, maturity and opportunity he'd be a very valuable player for us. Far better to support than rubbish.

And he's only 21 years of age too.

Through his first couple seasons you could always see some great potential there though there were many things he needed to improve.

Seemed like everything came together for him on Saturday night.

One thing is for sure and that is he doesn't need to put any more muscle/weight on!!

Good on the lad, a very important player for us this year and him playing well will go a long way to our team success IMO.

Agree. I cannot remember who it was but a while ago someone here was calling him Benny Hill or comparing some of the things he did to the Benny Hill show. That sort of comment looks stupid now .
Alex is the type of player who will make mistakes because he takes the game on but I love his courage and the way he is backing himself . You don't do some of the things he is doing without a lot of skill and I can't believe how much he has improved his marking . I am sure he is being coached well but some of this must also have been between the ears .
Confidence and belief are probably the areas he has improved in the most. He and Titch Edwards are to me the two who play most on confidence . Its such a pity that Edwards got injured because his game against Freo showed me that he had turned the corner as well.
