Fletcher is 2 inches taller than Grimes, makes a huge difference.

Dale Morris has managed to play KD a fair bit and Grimes has him covered for height so I suppose it is not out of the question.

From a future perspective the KD roles are the least certain.

Hard to tell really. I personally think speed, spoiling ability and the ability to read the play are far more important qualities in a KPD than absolute height or bulk (with some height needed of course).

I agree that our defense is our least certain area and given that we are leaking big scores it is an area that needs to be sorted if we are to progress. I am still confident that Grimes and Astbury can play these key roles, however they are still a couple of seasons away from week in week out consistency in such important positions. Until then we are stuck with McGuane :-\.

I'd be tempted to get games into Astbury ahead of Luke. Rance had a shocker, but will learn from it. Grimes will be a good player. Moves really well.

I would like to see Astbury instead of McGuane as well, however he is going to have to demand it with Coburg form. I agree with the calls that McGuane has been and continues to be a liability in our backline, but he is the incumbent and one of the developing talls has to demand the spot through form in the twos.

Difference there is Morris can read the play very well and has footy smart which helps him get into positions that favour his size. Rance on the other hand is a pure athlete. Will run all day, get to contests but if the bloke is bigger doesn't have the brains to work out other avenues to spoil. Can come good as a 3rd tall defender but no way as our main backman. We need a Glass, Merret, Rutten type and our backline would instantly improve.

Cant believe some of the flack our backmen cop each week, if the players up the ground stop playing as downhill skiers it will make life so much easier.

I'll probably cop some flack for this but the way we have been playing is very Bummers under Knights, great at running one way
To kick 18 goals and lose by 5 yesterday shows we had to many downhill skiers.
Its been noticable for a while now, just relying on outscoring the opposition is not the answer.

Our defensive work needs a lot more work all over the ground before we start worrying whether or not our guys are going to be KPP or 3rd tall

Off the McGuane bandwagon Tooheys.

I still don't mind Luke as a stopper but ball use doesn't look like it's going to be good enough going forward (not improving) so best we try out some other options before decisions are made at years end.
Put him in the Thursfield bin.

Who do you think is next in line?

Be good to bring Astbury back.

Failing that let's see what Gourdis has got even though I don't rate his usage either. Just to be sure.

Worried about him. Only player in the side who I am worried about really. Not saying the side will win a flag as is but players are generally improving across the board and doing their bit.

For all the comparisons with McGuane, Rance isn't in the same ball park when it comes to lacking composure. Despite the goof near the end, don't think there is a problem with his decision making.

Its notable how with someone like Grigg not having any confidence in his disposal on the last line that Rance does have enough confidence to make effective kicks.

The best sign for him was he did it against a bigger opponent, which is the major worry on him. His composure and use of the ball have improved out of sight. And he's as brave as they come.
