Alex Rance

Fair enough. The thing with 21 year olds is the are still improving so 70% this year might be 100% next year or the year after. Rebuilding is never going to be easy to sit through.

Would've been good to have Moore out there today - we needed another big body.
Thought Rance played his best game for us last week - this week looked back to his unco-ordinated best, but battled on as did most in defence.
Missed Edwards run and carry today and Whitey's pace. Can't wait for Griffiths to get up and running - and for morton to get back into form.

was he wearing his Crosby's today? stand up for crying out loud, he spent half the game slipping and falling all over the place. if he is our answer to a key defender, then we need to start kicking 25 goals a game.
He was poor, but he had alot of mates, Newman, Grigg, Jackson and Graham

Has spent more time on his hands and knees than on his feet during his career to date. Goes to ground far too often

look..he had a shocker today...gosh,how on earth did he not get a finger on the ball when it went thru the dogs goals TWICE at shoulder height????..but just about everyone had a shocker..he has played some preety good football of late

rance is not up to afl level , goes to pieces under pressure time and time again ,mguane is worse ,turns the ball over under no pressure, replace them with dea and astbury.

Alex was ordinary today but has shown improvement which everyone would agree. On the other hand McGuane has not improved. If you put decent players around these guys they may look ok with Alex looking a little better than Luke but at the end of the day we cannot go forward with these two being the lynchpins of our defence.

I didn't think he was that bad today, aside from not ouching a couple that went through for goals. Dimma mentioned it (not by name) at the press conference, I imagine Rance is going to know all about it.

Give it a rest you blokes. Had 2 great games before this and did ok today.
Do not blame defenders when a team cannot get the ball out of the center.
Bulldogs killed us in the middle and their forward line was much more open than ours.
Have a look at our midfielders who over use the ball and handball to players with their feet set in concrete..

Rance will be a walk up start in most AFL Teams as a 2nd or 3rd backman...

Thanks B2

Agree with Barnzy. At least Rance got towelled up by half decent opponents. As for McGuane, he couldnt get near it and 5 game players like Liam Jones were too good for him.

thats the jones who had 10 possies and kicked 2 goals? 2 goals out of 23. 10 possies in a side that had 63 I50s.
dominated mcguane didnt he?

Ah yes when all else fails refer to the stats sheet. LMAO @ *smile* fans and apologists, keep the comedy gold comin'! :rofl

rance is an ordinary footballer at best
time to try someone else.

Interestingly, I know a guy who is now a scout for Collingwood (he played AFL for a different team).

FWIW, he thinks Rance is a good footballer being asked to play a role not suited to him. Going by his enthusiasim, I would expect Collingwood to go after him if he was available.

Leysy has given Alex some kudos in recent weeks but no-one can deny he was very poor today. Was beaten by his opponent everywhere he went.

Needs to fix his reading of the flight if he's to be any chance.

McGuane was the better matchup leysy thought Disco.

Despite his height Rance doesnt play tall. Still he went to other players & was still beaten.

Love him & far be it for leysy to criticise as he knows far more about coaching but didnt think it was one of Dimma's better performances. Have other thoughts if anyone can be bothered to listen.

what role is he suited to?

Well the guy I was talking to says he is not a KPD. He talks of Rance being the classic third tall. Says Rance has a lot of ability but needs a lot more KP defensive support to be a better player, because he is not instinctively a defender, but should be able to develop into a very effective rebounding third tall.

Agree with that. Rance's best role is akin to what O'Brien givens Collingwood IMO. Grimes and Astbury are our great hopes for genuine KPD's.

Agree with the Rance/O'Brien "comparison" for the future we hope. But doubt Grimes will ever be a legitimate KPD either. We've got a shedful of 3rd tall types.

Rance has come on plenty this year, hopefully he learns some lesons from today as well.
