Alex Rance

For all his general improvement, Rance is absolutely hopeless when bodied by an opponent. He'd be better off trying to spoil late like Thursfield, at least until his strength develops.

That's no true at all IMO. He made some very good spoils when given half a chance today, but when the ball comes steaming in every 10 seconds and you're playing on a guy who's 3 inches taller than you odds are you're going to get beaten.

Was disappointed that he wasn't stronger in the contest, in fairness to Rance, Big Will is one of the strongest players in the afl and does that to most opponents.

I could wear that if it wasn't happening every week. While he looks like a footballer, Rance doesn't have the core strength needed by a KPD at this stage. Compare the way he plays to e.g. Jamison v Riewoldt on Monday night, it's chalk and cheese.

He's come a fair way and definitely worth persisting with, but the absence of a bigger KPD option is costing us.

Definitely was looking for body/goal post contact on both of those goals.

Costly momentum-sapping mistakes. Very frustrating, especially the second one when we were 2 to 1 in the goal square.

His spoiling in close is good, and he can hurt running off his opponent but gee, it is elementary that you have to just get a hand on those long bombs.

I was hoping Post or Astbury were in the best today... no dice

Agree with that. Rance's best role is akin to what O'Brien givens Collingwood IMO. Grimes and Astbury are our great hopes for genuine KPD's.

Agreed. Too many bicep curls and bench presses. Not enough core stability. Also needs to learn how to out body his opposition. Good kid though and I'm happy they are playing him.

not that we have anybody to else to play the role he is doing atm but he was ordinary today. twice the ball went through the bulldogs goals which he shouldve got a hand on and he gets himself in the wrong position far too often. his lack of awareness is the reason that my first 2 points are accurate.

Even if you say so yourself.

Pretty tough day for defenders wouldn't you say?

Amazing how he has NO problem punching the ball when he could easily mark, yet when a finger nail will suffice, the bloke has the co-ordination of a *smile* in a spindryer.

Absolute scrub of the highest order, not AFL material in the least and one of the worst football-thinkers I've seen in many many years.

Will continue to get a game though, no one else coming through and what else would I have to laugh at if he goes ?

Good ol' Hymie, can't wait for next week, he should be front & centre for that one against some pretty slick moving Bummers.

Didn't see you here bagging him the last 3 weeks old mate.

Because he went OK against lesser opponents that are of his own level, like a few others in this team Disco, that should be obvious, even to a homer like yourself mate.

He's not AFL standard, thats my opinion of him, may play a game here or there that gets the likes of yourself excited, but I wont be fooled that easily....

Scrub. ;)

was he wearing his Crosby's today? stand up for crying out loud, he spent half the game slipping and falling all over the place. if he is our answer to a key defender, then we need to start kicking 25 goals a game.
He was poor, but he had alot of mates, Newman, Grigg, Jackson and Graham

Yeah, was poor today.

Although can't help when the only experienced key defender beside you is McGuane who is a hack of massive proportions. It puts more pressure on you than it does help you. Rance has shown improvement so 1 or 2 bad games is not the end of the world yet. Still needs a hell of a lot of improvement in many areas though.
Agree with Barnzy. At least Rance got towelled up by half decent opponents. As for McGuane, he couldnt get near it and 5 game players like Liam Jones were too good for him.

very tough day for defenders it was but so what. his inabilty to be sharp with his mind at every contest just isnt good enough. 70% of the time isnt acceptable. happy to be proven wrong but it costs us goals and really takes the sting out of previous good work that has been done by him and others.
