Alex Rance

Still makes some mistakes that he shouldn't. I still close my eyes when he has the ball. I still have my doubts. BUT. He is improving. The last few weeks have been good to very good. My doubts are slowly diminishing. I hope he keeps improving.
Good game

I actually feel pretty comfortable when he has the ball - may not be perfect, but better in his hands than McGuane's.

love the way rance plays the game - goes in hard, attacks the ball, runs hard, runs hard and runs hard to link up and support. say hello to our full back.

The "Rance Dance" - I saw it with my own eyes, twice, three times in that last quarter, couldn't believe it but folks I did see it.

His skill and composure is improving out of site - played much better than McGuane - and he has a great turn of speed.

The last time we had a dancer back there was *smile* I believe.

Along with Nahas would have to be our most improved at this point, really liking the improvment in every area of his game, hope his confidence continues to rise before the big tests come

Spot on. Is starting to show a touch of composure, something we need more of in our tall backs. Has really showed so far this year that he can be a rebounding defender which is something some of our other tall backs, McGuane, Thursfield have failed to do

His long kicking out of the backline has been the biggest surprise improvement for me. Still has the occasional brainfade but is definitely showing strong signs that he will become the player we need him to be

Alex's last quarter was top notch - as were Batch and Grimes. Rance was often prepared to cut back inside and take them on. It came off most times yeaterday. At just 21, there is much to look forward to as he gets stronger and more experienced

Rance played some good football. Always good to see a written-off player turn it around.

Rancealot is what?
Twenty one years old, KPP with ooooh maybe thirty games experience. The kid is still developing, maturing and improving. Just goes to show that some of our experts have NFI whats going on.
Why the hell do so many need to write kids off before they've actually progressed past the starting point of an AFL career?
Kingy, Nacho, White, Laceout, High Def and just about every youngster coming into our side gets the expert career write off as soon as they show they aren't first season superstars, it's bloody pathetic.

I think Rance got written off by some, maybe unfairly, because at times he wasn't showing he even had the tools to become a solid player. Had some patches where he played very ordinary football for extended periods at coburg & looked like he didn't even have the ability to take a mark with his arms outstretched.

Has definitely turned this around which is great because structurally he is very important to our team going forward.

Agree.

He is involved in the Benny Hill-esque theatrics in defence less and less. Has played better than McGuane this year IMO.

Will be better I think when Moore gets back in the team.

I have been a defender of Luke for some time, but I believe that Alex has gone past him. Muscles will be required on the likes of Barry Hall, but I reckon Kel Moore is more likely to replace Luke than Alex/Dylan.

6 months - a year ago he couldn't do anything right ....couldn't read the play, couldn't read the flight, couldn't make a contest , couldn't punch it, constantly went to ground. He's gotten a lot lot better.

6 months ago? 3 weeks ago!

Used the ball pretty well I thought.
Still....that dud Bradley kick 4 goals on him, so he lost that battle clearly.

Newspaper said he only gave 1 goal away to Bradley. Personally I thought he'd shared a bit of time on Bradley with McGuane.

Been really impressed with Rance's improvement this year.

His decision making & execution are now very quick. (He used to take an eternity to get rid of the ball!).

More importantly he's picking the right option.

People forget he is still pretty young and I think he will be around for a while. A bit Gaspar like, just needs a full year down back.

Gee I hope he ends up better than Gaspar. Gaspar makes McGuane look like Jarman kicking wise and was terrible in other skills apart from marking. Gas used to freak me out when he had the ball.
