Alex Rance

worth noting that tonight he played deep and competed well in the air against their tall fwds more than holding his own. admittedly they weren't much but if rancey keeps developing the one on one and aerial skills whilst providing the workrate and run he will be the answer to our prayers structurally. in the last 6 months he has developed more than in the 3 seasons previous so he looks to be a quick learner

Has passed mcguane and thursfield. Another smaLl step for the tigers

I tend to agree. McGuane was just diabolical last night. His first quarter contained enough material to fill a comedy festival act. Just a goofy, dumb footballer.

Liked his run out of defence, disposal was better, but still has some way to go in his body and positioning work.

Only 1 clanger had 20 disposals, 11 marks 10 rebound 50's , 90% disposal effectiveness ,8 1%s was on the ground for hole game pile alot of pressue looked more comfortable big improvement from last week they way i messure a good game as well with everything else when im at the footy is how i yell or cheer for players i didnt even yell at rance once ;D :clap Top effort :clap

steadily improving with every game. defensive side improving, marking improving, kicking improving, decision making improving. the best thing I like about Rance is that he's not a statue in the back half, is always running to support and provide an option. also has urgency in his game. alot of our attacks from defence start from him. Like Nahas always takes the game on.

Yep. His best game for the club IMO. Looked composed under pressure. The opposition was pretty ordinary and their delivery I50 poor but he made some great decisions. Seems a different player. And he caused a bit of pain to a couple of their players which was a bonus.

I'm really glad to see Rance playing well. It was the best game of this career by far. If Rance can establish himself as a top line key back I would be over the moon, let's hope Astbury can do the same.

One area I think Rance still needs to improve is holding his feet in a contest, he still goes to ground too easily and too often which can be a big problem when you are playing deep in defence. Hopefully something that will improve with more body strength over the next couple of pre-seasons.

Didnt have much at all to beat but a good solid game from Alex.

Freo will be an excellent test for him this week. They apply excellent pressure on defenders so will be interesting to see how his composure goes with ball in hand.

It will be a far sterner test than the Kangas & Brisbane.

Think between him and grimes we have the start of a backline. At least if they both keep improving. They both seemed composed with the ball and have great closing speed. Hopefully they can nullify there opponents and hurt them going the other way.

Still a long long way to go. But they have shown some good signs.

If Rance, Vickery, Astbury, Post, Grimes and Griffiths all make the grade then the club is set.

If...

I would play Rance on Pavlich this week. McGuane goes to Bradley and Grimes to Ballantyne.

no probs at all with that collision with raines they both went for the ball unavoidable contact and raines came off second best nothing in it shouldn't even be sighted
Looks like sanity prevailed and the MRP said that both players were contesting the ball so no action taken

Glad to see Alex improving, he has the build and physical attributes to be a Darren Glass type.

He needs to comtinue improving his body use, and composure which impinges on his disposal, one area he has improved on is his reading of the play a little.

And a lovely bump that Rainsey will remember for a little while...need more of these hard but fair bumps. ;D

Im not sure how u rate clarke navy, &to be honest i dont rate him that highly, but rance, &mcguane, took apart a guy who many reckon we should throw a lot of money at. And who many thought, along with looney, would kick a bag against us.
Rance played a good alround game.

Rance was good. Ran hard to provide an outlet, intercepted a couple of plays, showed better judgement in flight and delivered the ball very well by foot.
McGuane was his usual self. Tried hard, made a couple of blues that cost goals (that first quarter kick straight to Patfull, the sloppy high tackle in the first) and spoiled well most times. The opposition was not fantastic. Took apart may be a little exaggeration but hey we won and their key forwards did nothing so kudos to our KD.
Clarke is better around the ground as a ruckman that has spells in the forward line rather than as a permanent key forward - when brown returns I'd guess he'd play a bit more in the ruck.

has statically has improved considerably

2010 2011

disposals 12 19.7

kicks 6 10

handballs 6 9.7

marks 4 8.3

tackles 2 1.7

as well as composure, disposal and man on man defense. definitely a chance for most improved at this rate
