Alex Rance

Luke McGuane just tweeted this:

LukeMcguane: Feeling for young alex rance at the moment 3 weeks seems a bit steep personally it feels like a bit of a kick in the nuts

:rofl

Double What? I thought the club would appeal. Rance is standing still, Waite runs into him. But kicking backwards is ok.

The Match Review Panel is still the biggest mystery in AFL.
I reckon the decision was probably made on the chances of winning rather than on emotion about what seems a steep sentence.

There are too many anomolies in this system now , most Footy supporters have ceased to understand it.

Its tough on young Alex because its probably more than 3 weeks as he will have to push his way back into the team as well.

BCL, when did his Dad pass away? Was it recently?

I don't remember hearing anything. Terrible news. I feel for Rancid. He showed a bit last week, too.

Hope he can get over this and return to the senior side.
The scrutiny today's players are under is immense.

And the 7,000 cameras at teh ground don't help either.

Best of luck in the future, Alex.

Nice sense of humour from his sick bed nursing his gonads on a pillow...................... ;D

I hope that they target Waite again next time they play.

Good teams always send a message to those who displease them.

'nough of the stupid talk about cowards and dead relatives hey.

Does anyone know if there is footage of the hit? I've only seen the one angle from the live match and you can't really see anything.

AFL site has a story entitled MRP..... look for the red picture. It has three showings, two are similar, one is hard to see anything. Still hard to tell with confidence whether Rance stopped or not. It was off the ball, Rance was left standing and Waite wasn't - never a good look.

I think they owed it to Rance to challenge what has been widely acknowledged as an unfair decision.

We are hardly going to be respected by the commission and the competition if we just roll over everytime we get treated with disdain.

What happened to all this talk about wanting to be the best, most arrogant and most feared club in the comp again. No good talking the talk if you are not prepared to walk the walk.

What we have just done is endorse the decision so guess how many weeks our next player to go up will get...........disappointed!

We challenged on Jackson and Cotchy last year and got screwed.

They dont move on head contacts - refer also Buddy's problems in this regard.

I like Mcguane's response.

I'm hoping internally the coaches and players are properly integrating events into their response on the field.

Cheers PA. Hard to see how there aren't mitigating circumstances? It can't be intentional, Rance only held his ground there was clearly no intent. Is intent part of the MRP's points system?

Dunno how you can tell that, I look at the incident several times and the video is pretty inconclusive. There are bodies going everywhere, players looking at their man and the incoming kick, it’s entirely conceivable that it was just one of those things that happen without intent. If Rance had grabbed his head and faked like it was an accidental head clash rather than Waite’s head on his shoulder he probably would have got off.

No such thing as an accident in the MRP eyes when a player has options and makes a choice ie Rance made the choice to step into Waite's path. He was not run into by Waite, he stepped into his path to block. As soon as he did that, any head high contact resulting in injury is effectively Rance's fault, accidental head clash or not.
Rance chose to step into Waite's path, they collided, Waite's concussed (irrelevant if it was head/shoulder/elbow etc that contcated Waite's head) Rance charged and suspended.

We would lose any challenge IMO.

Have to agree with that, to me it always looks as though Rance plants his foot to take position then Waite (who finally decides its time to look in the same direction as he's running) runs smack into a brickwall.

Giving Rance a 3 week ban just because he's not a powder puff like Waite is crap IMO.

He didn't, I was referring to comments about Waite's father
