Alex Rance

I bet he has a few of the forwards keeping and eye out for him. Say what you will about his skill level and decision making but I would not like to be between him and the ball. Love how hard he goes for it. 100% fan

While not a stand out, Rance was good and should be assured of quite a few games. Would love for him to cement a position i n the back half.

i think what it is, is we all want an elite backman, someone with excellent kicking skills and currently our best option of this is a 19 yo in Astbury. Of the players that make up our defence they all have a fault or 2. So they will all cop a bit on here. Each of us has our favorites depending on what faults we dont mind in the player, but make no mistake when we have that player in place like we do up the other end that player shall be praised.

Thought Rance did alright.

Very hard for a FB to look good when the opposition have the ball on a string, as they did in the last quarter.

Watched the game live and didn't think Rancealot did much wrong, watched the replay and he actually had a fairly good game. Defended hard, ran to link and his disposal was fairly good.

Agree TM - he got better as the game went longer. This tendency seems to be the rock on which he perishes sometimes, it just takes too long to get into the game with better form. Based on round 1, he's improved and only a fool will completly dimiss a player on the back of real improvement (King anyone?)

I hope he doesn't get rubbed out it was clearly accidental but you just never know what to expect. I guess we will know this time tomorrow.

He played well, like Nahas he seems to be a bit more composed and his a lot stronger than Will and Luke. So far, including the preseason he has put his hand up to play at full back.

Rance looked serviceable the other night - may well be a potential hack, but McGuane is a proven-beyond-a-shadow-of-a-doubt hack. I know which I prefer.

Just got back to QLD from my weekend in Melb and have had a few days to think of my response to thursday's game and am quite surprised by the postive comments about Rance. Sure he tried hard, and sure he goes in hard but it's his lack of footy smarts that is a worry. This combined with his not-so-great kicking skills makes him a genuine worry, particularly in the last line of defence. I like to give players the benefit of the doubt but I'm leaning towards the dark side with Rance. He makes far too many mistakes at crucial times in a backline that is already deficient. If he was supported by other quality KPDs it may not be so bad but we have McGuanne who is worse than Rance, Astbury who doesn't have the experience yet and Moore who doesn't have the size. Unless the coaches can pull something out of the hat to boost our backline I'm afraid we're in for some shellackings this year.

Simply not up to it. No awareness.

Only once was that the case and when Eddie Betts comes out of nowhere I ask anyone to see it coming!

He was very good was Rance, people need to take another look at the game.

Have to agree to disagree - unfortunately I am sick and taped the game and watched it again - he didn't get any better. The days of playing league footy because you are hard at it and have a go are gone. Would have been a ripper in the 70's and 80's. Game doesn't suit him anymore.

I've asked before but didn't get an answer goose. Do you know who Alex's opponent/s was/were ?

That would be the case if that was his only attribute.

Simple fact is his run to provide was very good. Had 19 possessions so not only did he defend very well, but gave an option running out of defence in which he was known for when a junior.

The fact people still say he only possesses hardness means they are not paying attention. 21 year old KPP developing well, should be appreciated and supported, not be cast aside as a dud. He was good against Carlton.

I am not one to call players duds and am usually more hopeful than pessimistic about player development but I do have concerns about Rance. My recollection of the game is that he got plenty of it but put other players under pressure with his disposal by both hand and foot and just didn't seem to have any idea of where to go when he got the ball. Granted, I haven't seen the replay yet so he may have done some good things that I missed. I'm only going on what I saw. Hopefully he will improve but ATM his deficiencies are in areas that are not easily rectified.

Def need to watch the replay Maleny, Rancealot was nowhere near as bad as some are pretending. Think to many were expecting him to become elite within his first season on the list.
Seems to me that he's finally starting to develop into a solid defender, he showed a few glimpses last year and has continued to improve through this years preseason. Hopefully he doesn't get cited for Waite crashing into him and gets every opportunity to keep improving this year, I still think he'll be a decent player by years end with still more improvement to go next year.
