Alex Rance

Walker was very prominent in the first quarter. After that was hardly seen until the roll on in the last quarter. Rance did a good job and certainly on that performance deserves a spot next week.
I have only watched the replay of the 3rd quarter and the commentators made a veiled criticism of walker. They said ( was either Lloyd or Darcy ) that he was fine when the ball flooding in early and he was able to lead to space with a dominant midfield but that in the 3rd he had to compete one on one and was getting beaten .

Looks like the boys may have been working on their spins to get themselves out of trouble.

Rance, Conca and even Astbury showed off some good spinning tactics to get themselves out of trouble.

Rance's didn't pay off 100% but the tactic was used quite a bit.

Poor ol' Runway.

Hope he has a better game next week. :)

I enjoyed the game for most part, but there were a few errors by both sides, so, it will be more interesting next week me thinks!
:)

i thought rance had a good game disposal was ok a few times had nothing and just bombed away. his biggest problem as you all know his is decision making with the ball and defending. he seems to always what to spoil the ball and through his weight around for example when hampson went for a diving mark rance went in for the spoil/body pressure and drove with him when it was looking very unlikely hampson was going to take the mark, so rance went to ground the ball fell out into space and a carlton player ran onto it and kicked it into the 50. If he had stayed on his feet could of easily picked up the loose ball and we would of been on the rebound.

rance has no idea
if hes the future forget it. did he not see eddie betts last night ?
he has no football nous , give thursfield, gourdis or grimes a go before rance.

My main real concern with Alex is that he tends to run with his head forward of his body and leans that way, so he's always off balance and ends up on the ground.

He's got a very large amount of courage, which is a big tick. He's a big unit, which is another tick.
He does have the ability to run out of defence, and his handball is pretty good. He gave quite a long one to advantage during the 3rd qtr last night from memory, but by feet he makes me nervous.

I'm not a Rance fan but he's definately improving and played pretty well last night.
He got caught holding the ball early but after that looked pretty composed to me.

Didn't think he was too bad. Normally much worse. I can see improvement in some areas. He might make it, he might not but I don't get the bagging. Would keep him in the team for now. If anyone to blame it is the midfield.

Very true re the "leaning forward" bit General, its an oddity. Polo used to do it too.

Thought last night was a huge step in the right direction.

If Deledio was run down by Eddie Betts we would call it a standard chase down by Betts, when Rance gets rundown it is a glaring weakness being put on show. I don't subscribe to that. I thought Rance looked a much more composed footballer. Still not someone I have a lot of faith in when he has the ball but unlike McGuane he does try to run and carry. He does try to link up and get involved. Sometimes be willing to run hard is enough. It creates space and makes defenders commit and move.

Rance has a lot to fix to make it long term but last night was close to his best effort at this level. People want to give McGuane a pass for the amount of ball that was going down there but they want to hang Rance. I don't get it, at least not last night.

I thought that rundown could have happened to anyone, the ball was super hot, he was going flat out and Betts was on him almost instantly. As you say, could have happened to Lids

On last nights form would've happened to Lids if he had've ever gotten the ball and run with it.

I too am surprised at the praise for alex from last night. I had my heart in my mouth every time he went near it. seems to turn in to trouble a lot and often chooses the most dangerous option.

thought he was better in the pre season games.

Watched the game live and didn't think Rancealot did much wrong, watched the replay and he actually had a fairly good game. Defended hard, ran to link and his disposal was fairly good. As for the crap about Betts running him down and lack of awareness.
Rance dished of to Laceout and ran through to create the receiving link. He brushed past one Blooze player and was looking for an option when Betts nailed him from behind. He didn't appear to have received any cover or vocal warning from teammates that he was hot so no great surprise he got caught.
Betts who was bloody brilliant for the Blooze managed to nail three Tiges with excellent rundowns on the night, strangely the only one creating a drama was the one on Rancey.

Not strange at all if you read PRE, a lot of irrational comments about Rance going on
