Must keep him.
Draga I don' think he's made himself indespensable yet but on last night's display he showed that his disposal was quite good even though he didn't get a lot of the ball.
Looking forward to seeing him improve with more games.

I love this guys attack on the footy.... He may make a few mistakes but has a 100% crack.

Can he mark at all? It seems once his arms get above his shoulders he loses control of them, its the strangest thing.

worst reader of the flight of the footy ever. can't even get close.

I wouldn't mind Alex having the ball in his hands to have a set shot after the siren to win a GF for us. Very reliable in front of the big sticks. Must keep him.

What are the chances of him managing to get his head in front of someone's knee just before the siren goes, though?

35 possessions for Coburg after being dropped back last week. Pretty good effort. Would certainly appear to be gradually getting better and learning the game. I hope he eventually makes it - he doesn't seem to lack any ticker.

Agree totally. I see a lot in this kid. Certainly in some form and has improved his disposal.

Re: Rance - A full back at Richmond

The comments early in this thread are quite hilarious reading back on them.

"Pears overrated"

"Rance a footballers footballer"

"Great foot skills"

"Can hold down a key position"

and my favourite "at least Miller will be right this time when/if he says "cant believe he was still availiable at our pick"

:hihi

Fair go Barnzy. The kids career ain't quite dead yet, as long as he keeps doing the hard yards and improving his game then he's half a chance of getting another year and maybe maturing into a competent AFL player.
No need to keep poking him with the pointy stick to see if he's done, he'll cook himself one way or the other without your help.

Some big calls on Alex looking back.

Ok. At the risk of starting a 20 page thread out of nothing, here goes. (Geez, here comes the serious Redford. How boring.)

These blokes have been studied for 3+ years. They don’t slide in the draft for no reason. And Rance slid a long way. And I mean a long way. Here’s why.

Firstly, without wishing to sound like a killjoy or endure the roth of the ‘on the fringes’ Brightsiders who hardly get to a game or to any clubs outside of Richmond and whose love of Richmond doesn’t allow them to at least even contemplate reality of most things football visa Richmond, or what the outside universe may think, the fact is that rightly or wrongly, a lot of clubs viewed Rance as lacking composure and execution.

Anyone watching game 2 of the National Carnival would have seen this. Rance turned the ball over time and time again coming out of the backline. He has an awkward guiding of the ball in his kicking action just like his old man Murray. (Anyone who hasn’t seen Murray, go and watch some footage of his ball drop.)

Rance likes to rebound and run hard off the backline. And I mean hard. That’s good and things go well when there’s no pressure, but when there’s traffic and/or decision making involved, he can sometimes drop away.

The upside for Richmond is that he is a strong and big defensive player – which we desperately need. He is also very hard at the ball which we also need.

I liken him a lot to Adam Hunter - albeit Rance being 2cm taller than Hunter and Hunter starting initially as a forward.

Hunter, despite showing promise in his early years made mistake after mistake. He would run that big body of his in straight lines and always attempt to do the right thing, but he made a lot of mistakes. Eventually, he worked the WCE system out and became one of their most valuable players. I’m hoping Rance can become the same player for us.

Question is, does Richmond have the same structure and discipline in place to allow him to grow into a similar player. Dunno. He could be great. He could struggle. Who knows. I'll wait and see. Regardless, I think it is crazy the expections some people have on what is, after all, a pick 18 player.

Leysy hates to say it, but old Redford might have got this one bang on. Describes him to this day to a tee.

Hindsight is 20/20, if you'd been here back then you would have seen how highly rated he was as a junior.

Just need to re-read the last two lines of Redfords qoute Leysy one. The one thing Dimma has been rock solid on since he walked in the door is teaching the team his structured gameplan.
I haven't been watching the magoos this year but when Rancealot got promoted to cover injuries there wasn't much wrong with the way he played. I wouldn't have been surprised to see him keep his spot for another game or two. Seems like he took his stepping back into the magoos the right way by having another excellent game for Coburg. He's still got plenty of work ahead of him so I'll just cross the fingers and hope Dimma can structure him into a Hunter for us, it's preferable to hoping he'll flop and becoming another Tiger Dud.

To be fair to Rance, he was good on the weekend for the Burgers. Pretty good leadership shown in the huddles too - he is pretty respected down there it seems.

It's an uphill battle for him to become an AFL regular, but he might not be a total bust just yet.

Indeed. Just thought it was interesting given mostly everyone was on the same page and how he was described would be the total opposite of the Rance we know today.

Also to the comment before, you're incorrect. I'm not poking a stick at him and hoping he fails.
