Alex Rance

I've quite liked his effort against the Dons
Seems like he is adjusting to the level and was involved with some nice plays (that got muffed up by the next player)
Great set shot for goal too, if he pops up with 2 or 3 like he has this year then he will keep getting played

Tomahawk kicked 3 goals and 4 goals in his first two matches, he has averaged 1.3-1.4 goals per season every year he has played. He has slightly increased his marks and possessions.

Bottom line, he has not improved a lot, and he was never as bad as he was supposed to me. Second bottom line, he could mark and kick from game 1, skills that Rance does not have and is not likely to wake up with any time soon.
I don't know if you watch a lot of footy but what Hawkins has done in the last 3 game since being moved into the ruck has been very good .
I was trying to say that as soon as he finds the right place he just might fly.... and hasn't beeen bad tonight!!!!

If the coaching staff can get some value out of Rancealot as a defensive harrassing forward then it's purely a win win for us.
Dimma is working at constructing a solid defensive capability first before expanding the attacking side of our game, so if Rance grows into the task no probs. If Rance succeeds in any position on the field it's pure bonus simply because plenty of us have doubts about him and none of us are happy about the prospect of another high pick failing.
A bit of big bodied Rance crashing around the forward line might even make a bit of extra space for Jaaack to work in as well.
Our season isn't really going anywhere this year so there's no harm in getting an extra fifteen to twenty games into a big robust player and being absolutely certain about his future prospects, he hasn't really been around long enough to be a list clogger, hopefully he can keep developing.
Will never make it. Cannot mark the ball. Does not play tall. Is too slow (and football dumb) to play small. There just isn't a position for him.

Just in case you didn't see the blindingly obvious Umpire, Rancealot has actually already made it. He's played over twenty games so that makes him an AFL footballer, we're just waiting to see how good or poor a player he becomes as he develops.
There were a few nice bits of play from Rancealot last week and another couple last night so maybe, just maybe the big lug is starting to find his feet a little bit. Still a few games to go this season and I'd rather use them stretching a young Rance as far as he can go then recycling another one of our list cloggers back into the side.

Saw a few nice things from him against the Bombers
He seems to be slowly getting comfortable at the level, happy to keep playing him for the rest of the year
Certainly wouldn't be the first tall to take a few years to really come on at senior level

May well turn out to be true. However, by playing him up forward, he's been given a chance by the coaching staff to improve his marking and ability to read the play (without the danger of being pantsed by the likes of Franklin).

Then when Griffiths and Astbury come into the side, we can send him back behind the ball and pray that he's learnt something. It's worth a shot - nothing to lose.

Couldn't agree more with the last 3 posts.

Rance is slowly getting better. Can he improve enough to become a bona fide best 18 player? - time will tell. Rance is a perfect example of what 2010 is about for the RFC.

When are the posters going to lay off individuals and devote attention to the team aspects. For example the rubbish being posted about Rance. You could add a number of others eg Riewoldt, Edwards. It is not the fault of young players like these as to why we are not winning. We need to improve the team aspects. When this happens, these players will come into their own. Get the tackle, hard ball gets count up and the error rate down and these guys will start to look better.

Bloody hell Monty, don't be so bleedingly obviously right. Takes all the fun out of a good whinge and slagfest when you point out that the entire team needs to improve the basics of getting the tackles, skills and pressure footy right to make footy an easier game to play.
Much more fun to hang *smile* on individual players for not being perfect when the whole side has a heap of obvious improving to do.

Hahaha. Good laugh. Rance has "already made it" because he has played 20 matches for us.

The guy has poor disposal, cannot take an overhead mark (constantly runs under the ball, for an example check the tape from last night when he was sheparded beautifully in front of goal and dead set did not lay a finger on the ball), looses his feet constantly and is football dumb. He's too tall, slow and lacks the balance and smarts to play small. He can run head down into an opposition player and get a free kick, but that's about it.

High quality post. Agree totally.

I wouldn't mind Alex having the ball in his hands to have a set shot after the siren to win a GF for us. Very reliable in front of the big sticks. Must keep him.
