at 20 years of age and just 21 games - all under the pump trying to play well in a struggling side - lets say we give him some time

Yeah lets, we are Richmond after all!

He will become a really good player for us. With age come a cool head. Like most of our list he is a kid give him time.

But he can't mark a ball overhead. That's my biggest concern with him.

He's strong bodied and a great athlete. Give him a try as a tagger, then cut loose if that doesn't work.
Must admit I'd like to see him tried as a tagger as well, or even possibly off a wing for a few games.
Even Rancey thinks he'd make a midfielder.
I'm seriously hoping that Dimma gives him a good long run in the seniors this year, Rancey's still very inexperienced and this seasons a write off for anything other than development, if he gets eight or ten games in a row and still can't settle then perhaps make a judgement at years end.
Wouldn't hurt to try Lambshanks suggestion and have his eyeknackers fully tested just to make sure his depth perception is up to standard, can't recall any other player have so much trouble reading the ball in flight.

Maybe slip him anti-anxiety pills before the game. He *smile* himself everytime he goes near the ball.

Forget it - he can't play at AFL level. Write off as another wasted draft pick. Can't mark; no idea as to where to move to; no tricks that I can see and average disposal on the few times he does get it.

Mortin or Post deserve hsi spot asap.

The more I watch Rance the more I think he isn't going to make it. His disposal is not good enough, makes too many bad decisions and loses his feet too often and too easily. We should be seriously considering delisting him at the end of the year before he becomes the next Jay schulz. Unfortunately this looks to be another early draft pick wasted.
Have to agree - even though I don't want to agree.
I would love him to develop into a class player - but if it came to the crunch right now - I'd say he's not good enough and we cut our losses.

I cannot see him becoming a serviceable player. Best think to do is to trade him.

Has the turning circle of a B-Doub.

He's certainty at the cross-roads very early in his career, I think we have to give him another 18 months though. He has the size and strength of an AFL player so hopefully 2010 is a stepping stone to a brighter future. I still think he's a defender or nothing else.

Perhaps he would need to be given some consecutive games in such a role to be judged on it, but wasn't Rance tried as a tagger for a match last year to many people's disgust? I might be thinking of someone else, but from memory he was up against Dal Santo (which I grant wouldn't be the easiest job, given the support he receives from team mates) but seemed to look even more lost than usual. Hopefully someone can confirm or deny.

Can't see a spot for Rance. Normally I would argue for more time for a KPP size kid but haven't seen anything in Rance to get hopeful about.
Shop for trade.

Nearly choked on my beer during the warm-up watching Rance lead hard and mark the ball above his head!!!!

Best outcome for us really. Can't question his guts and efforts, but he just doesn't look to be a fit with us.

I reckon a return home to WA, maybe with the Eagles, would be a good outcome for all concerned.

Agree with Lamb - he has no idea where the ball is when in flight. Ok if he gets outbodied or the opposition reads it better, but he just doesn't get near it most of the times. He's like a cat jumping at a spotlight on the wall. Get his eyes checked.

Main thing going for him is his 'model looks' ... at least from Alex's perspective that is! Could not take an overhead mark over the proverbial jam tin and is like a rabbit in the headlights every time he gets the ball. Time to move on ... possibly up to the GC to work on his tan ...

Well he's definately not a defender, so I suppose you're right.
