Adem Yze

Are we serious?
We pissed off Bulter and Castagna and now we are scrambling to find jobs for flappers and a bloke that would struggle to get a game at Werribee.
Ralphsmith
Pickett
Flappers
Mansell
Biggie
Green
Miller
Should be all delisted

I rather see 7 new kids, where we might be able to find the next Graham or Baker
These 7 aren't getting better and some just aren't any good period.
Clean out and bring in from everywhere.
Find the next Milocheck, Stewart, Gibson, Trengrove
Not much point delisting guys now for those who are equally unlikely to make it - and we have to put on a 3yr contract.

Better to wait 12 months, then clean house in a supposedly deeper draft.

Agree.

But I do love the fact that "next year's draft" is always deeper.

Next year, of course, never happens in the present.

And a good number of our Premiership players came from very late picks and rookies so too much emphasis on getting first round picks can be over-rated. Yes, every team needs 6-8, either taken over a few drafts or traded in later but the real recruiting skill, as we know, is finding those gems late in the draft like Luke Parker, Dylan Grimes and many others.

It's always a risk - but if folks are talking of 50 live picks this draft, I'd say it's not very deep and weak overall (not the top end, but overall).

Why lock a kid in for 3 yrs if they are a low probability to make it?
We might get 1 top end pick next year, but maybe the depth of the draft is better overall. Time will tell.

Unbelievable isn't it.
Every ground on Saturday around the eastern suburbs is full of kids playing footy.
But every year we can't find more then 25 kids that apprantly aren't AFL standard.
How many Milocheck's, Ryan's, Stewart's miss out because the clubs are sooo focussed on kids only at 18.
25 is still very young especially nowadays players are playing into there mid 30's.

Spot on Look at Lambert, Broad, Pickett, Young… plenty of players out there that aren’t still living with mum and dad that can seriously play.

This time of the year supporters get edgy. We are looking at Essendon, North, Sydney and others bringing in players and get concerned that we are not, especially since we don't have a great draft hand.
Of course recruiting and list management is important but so are the things that have nothing to do with this time of year in player development and internal growth.
We will live or die next year on whether our new coach gets our team playing a better style of modern footy and whether we get improvement from within our current group. That's leaving aside the injury gods and how they treat Lynch and Gibcus.
Think about these players
Cumberland and Sonsie - gifted footballers who went backwards in 2023
Banks, Ryan, Brown, Clarke and Bauer- Shown a bit, how good can they be?
Tresize, Young and Coulthard- diamonds in the rough, are they long term AFL quality?
I haven't listed Dow or Rioli jnr who I still have hopes for (rather than expectations)
To me this is the area where I will be watching Yze. There are 12 players on that list. If none of them come on we are in for a lot of pain, if 7-8 do we are an entirely different proposition going forward.
Our immediate future largely depends on the development of these players imo, and I suspect it will come down to good coaching and development.

I totally agree. Whilst we won the 3 premiership (those four years 2017- 2020) we played our best football, to an extend we kept playing the same side (taking into account injury, retirements and departures), this stopped our development of younger players. I take the 3 flags any day.
For now we need to get our young players developed as we still have a competitive side (good mix of young and experience).

good post by Sintiger above.
i think a fair bit of focus was on Cotch and Jack finishing in 2023 and rightly so, they were and are huge figures at the club.
with them leaving it's a big part of the reset. new coach, assistants, and a renewed shift towards the younger guys of who most got a seniors run this season.
new energy. interesting times. good times.

I am not too fussed about the trade period. It looks like a K Mart fire sale.

But what I want to see is the club investing in our football department. So far we have only added in Newman. For me thats not good enough. We should have the cap space to bring in more people especially focusing on development.

Our recruiting department has been our Achilles heal since they introduced the draft.
I would go 1 short in the coaches box (*smile* off Teague or Rutten) to have another recruiting person join the club.
Unless the entire world know that the kid is quality the club hasn't got a clue.
Higgins Collier Dawkins Coleman Jones and Dow should be keeping us in the top 4 .we are lucky the AFL hasn't got relegation.

No point in getting the best kid in the draft, if you cant actually turn them into a decent player.
Most kids can play and can play well, developing into an AFL player is a totally different kettle of fish.

I said we have the Best in the business in developing. Lambert and we bring Edwards or get Grimes into the role.

More chance getting the Quaddie at Randwick 10 times.

It will be an interesting watch Smoking because of course coaching and development is subject to the soft cap.

So far it is Newman in and McQualter out but I would expect that Yze is paid less than Dimma was. I wonder if we have any soft cap space left ? The other thing of course is that most of the assistant coaches are probably still contracted given Dimma was contracted to the end of 2024 so we may well be hamstrung by that
