According to someone I know, they expected to be competitive this year, last role of the dice. I posted that same thing earlier this year - the info coming from a listed player.
Lynch, Martin, Prestia all looking to have had good pre-seasons and expected to do well. Prestia in particular hadn't done this much work in a preseason in a long time.
But, Yze said its a risk, and you'll need to rebuild after this year. I think there's potential we've tried to keep a Dimma style of game to support that, hence keeping some of the assistants. That may change next year.
If you go back to his speeches and interviews, he hinted at it regularly saying there was going to be some "bumps" and "hard times along the way", but he hoped Tigers fans would see a competitive side they could be proud of.
I think the injury toll this year, was unforeseeable. It's horrific. But we've appeared to add to those woes ourselves. They've definitely overrated a couple of players I believe they thought would be impacting more.
So many risks, so many backfires.
Head of football must be an idiot. Writing was on the wall. Rebuild should’ve started 2 years ago. Absolutely in denial and should be sacked for being incompetent.

Players who haven’t been developed
Ryan terrible gone backwards
Cumberland is laughable
Coulthard gone backwards
Sonsie backwards
Dow backwards
Banks is scared
Kosi laughable
Campbell jury is out
Greene clearly not up to watching him at VFL ( one good VFL game doesn’t make a career )
Grimes should never had gone on this year
Prestia and Lynch finished - injury prone
Bloody hell.
Ryan gone backwards? I'll give you stagnated, but you can't really go backwards from bugger all to start with.

Cummerbund had a handful of good games a few years back n then the dream turned to *smile* long before Ouzo.

Coulthard a handful of classy possessions in one senior game another with bugger all to go backwards from.

Sonz, a largely outside lurker who is struggling to cope with the pressure and physical intensity of AFL. Still has time.

Dow has easily played more senior games this year than any other year on the list, instead of backwards maybe he's simply not quite good enough
Banks scared, laughable. Just a youngster trying to find his way into an AFL career.

Koshitzme, unwanted at Hawforn n taken a bit of time to start finding his feet while *smile* been happening all around him.

Campbell simply another youngster trying to find his feet while all the *smile* is happening.

Green again a youngster trying to find his way to AFL level footy.

Grimes, Lynch and Presty. How the *smile* are they Ouzo's fault? They were all on contract before he got there.

Maybe you'd have more fun bleating n knowing everything about the internal workings of the club on big footy or somewhere similar

Has any club in recent years come out and announced a rebuild?
Probably #Lolnorf came closest to announcing a rebuild some years ago when they pushed a bunch of senior players out the door in one hit. They're still working on the foundations n haven't got much built yet.

Spot on TM

About 8 weeks ago Banks stood his ground and was crunched and knocked out cold, he knew he was going to get hammered. Calling him scared is pathetic imo, but it is the sort of thing we have come to expect from that poster

From what close observers are reporting and what Yze has been saying, the effort is there, contested and clearance numbers are good enough but we don't quite have the connection. You can't get the connection with a revolving door of ins and outs and positional moves, which is what we've had with all the injuries.

One assumes that's why there are minimal changes.

Earlier this week some posters highlighted that against Freo it was 3 or 4 5 minute patches that let us down. Listen to the Tom Brown video. Post match that's exactly what he says, "there were 3 or 4 times where we just lost concentration/focus". It happens to young sides.

Watch the Hawks last year, West Coast the past 3 years, North just 2 weeks ago (a 40 minute lapse after being 55 points up). Some good patches for all of them and some where they just "lose it". That's how young sides play.

Look at us vs Brisbane or the Bullies. With the number of young players and disconnect we've gone from being lost to holding structure for all bar a few small'ish periods. We're starting to limit how much the opposition score. Not as much as we need but we are starting to reduce the oppo. We struggle to score but even there we show some glimpses of improvement.

That's a coach who see's where we're at and is looking at improving bit by bit.

And it's noticeable at training with the different drills and the change in focus.

Problem is we're not such a young side. Almost 2 years older per player than Fremantle last week

Last week:

RichmondAttributeFremantle
187.2cmHeight189.2cm
85.1kgWeight88.1kg
26yr 5mthAge24yr 8mth
92.2Games86.4

Yes we had more players under 50 games (8 v 12), but it shows it is more a quality and motivation issue, than simply blaming age.

Fair point. Probably should have focussed more on the experience angle. But that is experience on 2 maybe 3 fronts. Experience at AFL level, experience/confidence/trust in playing with one another, experience/understanding/trust of the gameplan and in knowing when and where to go. The focus at training the last couple of weeks has been on the last point which I believe will help the 2nd point. The first point is just get some games into some of the young/inexperienced guys.

That's BH's fault. Poor post Jack succession planning. Yep I get it most likely will take generations to find another KPF of Jack's calibre, but it was always going to end in tears with his departure and Major Tom's susceptibility to injury for some time now.
Generations lol. We literally produced Hart Roach Hoggy lol Richo Jack pretty much consecutively. I expect our next champ FF shortly.

Yeah that's fair. There is very little synergy and cohesion in our team ATM.

We made the mistake in 2021 after that lions final went the wrong direction. It was time for rejuvenation then and start making some hard decisions. We're paying for that now. Football department and hierarchy totally misread the situation and alot of crap Yze has inherited. Reckon we got a bunch of senior players checked out and haven't put in all year lucky we got 3 or 4 that have been consistent or letting kids do the work.

We didn't make the finals in 21

It would be an interesting b & f this year ! With injuries & poor form I have no idea who would be leading at this stage.
