Adem Yze

How does a club like Geelong, despise them as much as you want, manage to stay on top for so long without any top draft picks?

Apart from what others have said their recruiting has been good. They have the lifestyle attraction but apart from that they have recruited well.

Thought we had good leaders at the club who would steer us through a period of sustained success. Seems they've all jumped ship now.

We’ve lost a lot of good people. Not sure those who remain are up to the task.

We will find out over the next season and a half.

Hard to tell if he can coach or not. He has been handed a *smile* sandwich

We have senior players who are either fringe players who were made to look better than they are when they had stars around them, or whose best is behind them. And the kids are a real worry. Can’t see any future A graders anywhere.

It will take a few more drafts than just the upcoming one to see us build a list capable of contending for finals let alone a flag.
Yep people creaming themselves over pick one and think we can turn this shitshow around in one draft. Zero chance. Clubs like North, Carlton, Hawthorn and Melbourne have shown it takes multiple drafts and you need high picks in those drafts. We’ll get the chance to see if we can do it but it won’t happen over one or two drafts. We are facing a minimum 3 seasons on the bottom rungs of the ladder.

Had a sh1tload of injuries severely impacting performance genius. It’s not that hard to figure out
Game plan is rubbish
Hardwick was just plug in and play
Role players
Forget about the injuries
Half those injured aren’t in the best 22
Eg Naismith , Ross , M Rioli , Clarke . Young

Unfourtantly we have had a sustained period of poor drafting under Matt Clarke. Some of it due to not having really high picks. If you have a period of drafting like that over a few years it will take a fair while to turn it around.

Adem will need to be a good devolpment coach and keep a positive attitude around the club. He also needs some help with keeping players on the field.

The game style is horrible to watch but given the list he has inherited it difficult to say if he can coach or not.

No idea if Yze can coach but calls to sack him are ridiculous. That's "bring back the Geisch!" dark old days emotive Richmond stuff.

Been no consistency in cattle this year and the prime beef is aged. Time to restock the farm, not the farmer.

Hearing a lot about the preseason camels..
A reminder Ooze was pretty quick when they came out to credit Luke Meehan for the idea. Thought that was subtly smart at the time to pass the buck. Only thing he got wrong was not saying it was a stupid idea.
He’ll learn from it.😎

Yeah pre 2021 there were some head scratchers; Collier-Dawkins & Dow are stand outs for me.

And then others are just happenstance as you can’t keep everyone when you’re up and about.

Higgins wanted out (which was annoying at the time), and Coleman-Jones wanted out for what appeared to be more opportunity and money. Butler the same situation.

Whilst other pics you can’t really complain too much about given their draft no’s. Ross (43), Ralphsmith (46), Cumbo (43), Rioli (51), Mansell (supplemental pic), Miller (63)

Adem will need to be a good devolpment coach and keep a positive attitude around the club. He also needs some help with keeping players on the field.
I’m assuming that the perceived ability to teach and mold a group of young men was one of the selection criteria.

And this would include the ability to communicate in a manner that is effective in this day and age.

However I feel that some posters would perhaps like to see more sand dune runs and water boarding at this point.
The game style is horrible to watch but given the list he has inherited it difficult to say if he can coach or not.
Things are clearly breaking down in a number of areas in different points of a game, which is horrible to watch.

As many have posted we have a cohort of senior players that are well past their best combined with a smattering of younger players who may not make it (that are getting opportunities due to injuries), and young players who might but are very short on experience and match fitness.

Essentially the current playing list is a *smile* soufflé.

And I feel that some are conflating the end result of having such a diabolical list balance with having a ‘bad game plan’ or a game plan ‘that they don’t understand’.

Or that the ‘players aren’t trying hard enough’

And if the game plan was any good that you could just about plug anyone into the team and the structures in all phases of play would remain robust and things should ‘just click’.

No.

Let’s not make excuses. If the gameplan/system was solid we would be competitive regardless of personnel.

What people are forgetting when they are saying Yze is in a similar position to when Dimma arrived is:

We had a stable board where Peggy became a great President
We had the brilliant CEO in Benny Gale
A better list riddled with future Elite and A grade Talent
Benny and Peggy helped grow the membership and the JDF so debt was eliminated

We have lost these two great people now and with the PRO development, poor on field performances debt could come back as people that were hanger ons may not renew their memberships or support the club with fundraisers. We couldn't even make a million dollars on digital brick sales . Is it because of the current financial hardship people are faced with or lack of on field success or both? Either way we're not in a good shape both on and off the field and why Yze has his work cut out. I certainly don't envy him. It's a Dominoes Effect

💯 mate and we had more talent on the list to. People here quick to point the finger on Yze , but no accountability for people on top of him ?. We're is the leadership from the hierarchy Gale heading out and we got a president dead silent.

Look at our fitness and conditioning medical programs it's a mess. Who made that appointment ?.
Player recruitment over the last 2 years wrong way about it
Rejuvenation and changing of the guard should have started 3 years ago
Assistant coaches he had to take on board Rutten and Teague .

The point is offcourse he needs to do better, but on top of him needs a review to many things gone wrong Yze inherited. Get the best people around him and support staff.

We also had a plan instilled and when it went off course and as you say a review did the job to stop it derailing. We should've reset goals after 2021 when we failed to make the eight, but got caught up that we could still achieve success. The warning signs were there, but complacency and old beliefs were rife.

Rewriting history

When Dimma came on board Benny had been there 5 minutes. The place was riddled with debt, we couldn’t afford a stand alone vfl team. Peggy was on the board but was not president.

We had one young star in Cotchin, a high potential forward in Jack. Dusty was drafted the year Benny and Dimma started. We had no idea Rance and Edwards would be stars, they were ridiculed by many on this site early on. We had one star player in Lids.

So we had a rookie coach, a new CEO and a board member who wasn’t even president yet. We were on the bottom, facing compromised drafts and a couple of young potential stars. We were debt ridden.

We are miles ahead of that now off the field, light years. We had no idea how Benny, Dimma and a board member none of us knew would perform. We don’t know now how this group will perform either but we are far better set up for success than we were then.

Okay. So where is the new plan? We need someone to come out with a vision of 4 premierships and 200+ members

Benny and Peggy had excellent resumes and were no fools and they both breathed Yellow and Black. Peggy was on the board for years beforehand. Benny was head of the AFLPA. They won back the trust of the fans as they put down a plan which we bought into and without debt that led to the success. We currently have a silent president, no CEO , a development that could send us into debt, a screwed up FD with no Balme as well , terrible list of kids in comparison and memberships starting to dwindle.
Members have lost trust with all the shenanigans of the events after what happened in the hub 2020 . We couldn’t even sell $1mil in bricks because people are not convinced. Benny leaving was the last string of trust left from the golden years. and now it’s all gone.
IF you’re ignoring the challenges and not seeing the differences then you are being unrealistic as the differences between 2010 to now are light years apart. We don’t even have a long term plan let alone a game plan.

Yep.
Also posters saying it rejuvenation should have started after 2021 appear to forget, or be unaware, we took 5 picks in the top 30 that year.

It appears to be a competition amongst some who can write us off the quickest and most.
