Adem Yze

Seeing Richmond supporters claim on social media that Hawthorn is 4 years ahead of us...

What absolute garbage. They are crap. Their list is crap. That little Watson child isn't of AFL standard. Sicily is decent, but ain't Rance. Day isn't Dusty. Chol isn't Jack.

But they are well coached and well drilled. Maybe Yze is still learning the caper, but Sam Mitchell gave him a bath yesterday.
And yet Hawthorn supporters were flooding the airwaves bemoaning the fact that Mitchell couldn’t coach and needed to be replaced early this season. Fast forward a couple of months and he’s now the messiah and a candidate for coach of the year.

Both suggestions are ridiculous of course, but no more ridiculous than some of the stuff on this forum. Let’s not revert to the “eat our own” mentality that made us a laughing stock to every other club’s supporters, particularly at a time when the club is going through one of the biggest transitions on and off the field in its history.

Can Yze coach? Who can tell considering the *smile* show he has inherited? But I’ll trust in the people who appointed him and who have are far better idea than anyone on this forum.

After all it wasn’t that long ago that we were having the same heated debates about Hardwick. Turned out he wasn’t as bad as many of us thought.

It might be that Yze is just the devolpment coach for three to five years while we stockpile early picks. He might be the Terry Wallace. We don't have the next young A graders already on the list other than maybe Gibcus. We still need to draft them. We were crap while Terry was coach but if you count the year he left we drafted Jack, Shedda, Cotch, Rance, Dusty, Astbury and Grimes to set up the core.

Too early to tell whether he can coach or not but imo we should be more competitive than we have been.

Our game plan all over the field has been rubbish. Our backline is arguably holding us together but that's because we have plenty of talent there. Balta, Vlastuin, Rioli, Brown, Brown. Our transition out of defence is deplorable though and that's because short is generally the link up bloke and his kick it rubbish bombs down the line instead of finding a target is killing us. This is on the coaches as they haven't changed that play all year.

That's me as well. I have questions but I'm not nervous. Yze hasn't had a full deck to coach for most of the year. Would like to see some improvement in the back half of the year.

Look at what Hawthorn have done and are doing again with kickers down back. All elite kicks but more importantly, they know where to go when they have it.
On Saturday that Hawks kickers knew were to go, they ran to space and the kickers put it there. We didn't. Our kicking down back isn't too bad but we don't have any flow coming out of the fifty. It's slow, sideways and never incisive. That's coaching.

Players that have improved are Miller., Hugo and MRJ.
Unfortunately not enough and the other problem is most Senior player's have declined.
Not enough players have come on as well as injuries with fitness related is still a nemesis to us.
Coaching would be difficult under these circumstances, but I'm not seeing enough senior players being dropped at this this stage for their poor efforts and that's on the MC and coach.
Game plan is also U10 standard.
We have a poor list, but effort is not there and a lot of players appear to be below standard. This happened in 2016 , but with improved fitness. a better game plan and kids given a go everything changed. I still think we don't have the quality to this stage on our list to be competitive for a while.

And MRJ is debatable. Played a couple of decent games. That is all, decent. Hardly breakout games.improved? Still hot and cold
I’d say 2 players have improved.Maybe Mansell.
Show some promise ..Campbell, Brown, good, average and poor. To be expected as newbies.

But I get your point. Not many knocking down the doors for a game

Campbell and Brown i agree on, but Mansell is still at the same level.

How many of our players have improved on last year?
Brown, Miller, Campbell, MoJu, Ralphsmith.

It is a bit hard to expect Clarke, Gibcus, Trezise and Bauer to improve given their injury problems. We have discovered good players in Lefau and McAuliffe

Listening to Hawthorn supporters is instructive on this issue. There are a number of players in their team that the supporters were calling duds 12-24 months ago, some of them whipping boys.

You look at the team sheet from the weekend and you think ‘that’s a reasonable collection of footballers’.

In context though, against the contenders of this competition, you realise how far off we are.

Another bottom four finish coming up in 2025 but two off-seasons of drafting high will do us a world of good.

He didn't have the same decimating injury list that Yze has. Yes we did make the right call. We needed to change.

Time will tell when all's said & done.

But he still had JR up forward and Cotch .Even though they were on their last legs, they provided some leadership. Grimes as well.
And Taranto for nearly every game and Hopper for half the year.

Same with wanting to sack Mitchell.
