Acceptance - we are now a middling side

I like the logic.

But which players are changing matters.

You can shuffle the supporting staff. But it's not surprising that across the above dynasties, the core remained.

Bartel, Ling, Stevie J, Selwood, Scarlett, Chapman, Enright, Ottens

Cotchin, Riewoldt, Prestia, Lambert, Edwards Astbury, Martin, Houli, Broad, Grimes, Nank, Castagna.

All played in our 3 flags. Only 4 of them out there today.

It's the ship of Theseus thought experiment. How many, and which parts need to be replaced for it to be considered a new ship?
Lynch was basically a top 5 pick we got for nix (other than salary cap) and Bolton as another top 5 when he is on we got in the teens. Hopefully sonsie another of this and gibcus lives up to his top 10 billing. Pickett another worthy top 15 type player we got (late career) and for peanuts on salary cap. Balta looks another who at his best can be an AA rebounding / intercepting defender.

Stack not coming on is a blow, and losing Butler who at his best is AA and at his worst is poor in the VFL are probably the big losses for me that are worth a couple of spots on the ladder. CCJ, Chol etc. are fine.

Yeah you missed Ablett from the Cats leaving after two flags, he leaves after 2010 and in 2011 they win a flag.

Buddy leaving after 2013 and same result for the Hawks, they win flags back to back in 2014 & 2015.

We also didn't miss a beat, in fact we got supremely better, when a two-time Jack Dyer Medallist in Deledio left, arguably somewhere in our top 5 players at the time?

Yeah, and we lost Rance after 2017 too.

But one is not 9.

Lynch, Bolton and Pickett played in 2 of the flags, and Balta one. Difficult to see them as positive changes post Dynasty.

We were taking about core players. I see them as core post 2017 through say 2025/6 that aren’t.… Cotchin, Riewoldt, Prestia, Lambert, Edwards Astbury, Martin, Houli, Broad, Grimes, Nank, Castagna.

West coast doesn’t have this Meir career contingent of players hence their decline.

I think it will be a huge task to even make the finals from here, top 10 pick also up for grabs. Hopper isn't right either, spent huge chunks on the bench when the game was up for grabs.

With 5 kids today having played less than 10 games, we are in transition

Tigers could be in the bottom 3-4 after the next two games.

The club is caught between the now and the future and is now going up and down in the one spot.

And the side still continues to commit suicide in front of goal.

How many missed chances today how many goals we lose by 1.

Skills failures and *smile* poor conversion have lost the Tigers most of their games in the past 18 months.

I think Bullus Hit is right. We shouldn't have sold the farm for both Taranto and Hopper. We have fallen into the trap Essendon did with Shiel. We should have just kept the majority of our picks and looked at decent priced options like Collingwood did with Mitchell, Hill, Mcstay and Frampton.

Worst Part is if the year goes completely tits up we cant even look forward to the draft.

Might have to try and trade back into it if we can.

With who I dont know, thats the other problem.

The history of GWS at the trade table was on full display, absolutely no excuses, they have bent over another club, always damaged goods being sold as prime cattle. As players Hopper & Taranto are not capable of spearheading the midfield for the next 7 years, I honestly have no idea how we can fill the other glaring gaps either. The strategy was always a good chance to unravel, we were 12th in 2021 yet somehow portrayed as premiership material, those in charge have failed to pay respect to history - on many levels. I'm gutted not because we are losing but because we have assumed success would be instantaneous via the introduction of two inside mids, perhaps the easiest spots to fill on a list. On top of that we are now staring down the barrel of losing a top 10 pick, that will sting for many years to come.

Crazy talk on here.

In the dry conditions we played some of the best football seen this year. It was dry for one qtr. we were unstoppable.

We just need that Spanish boy El Niño to influence our winter

I was a big fan of the trades at the time, but I think just like the club I misread how close we were. If you don't understand where you are at as a club it can set you back years as a club.

Yep. Looks like La Nina refuses to leave.

@Carter mmm... I'm starting to think I owe you an apology.

IMO we lost tonight out of inexperience. 7 out of 23 are kids. Our good players generally played well, but I felt we just weren't good enough.

Might need to accept we are in transition.

People want to play the kids, then also want to complain when it leads to outcomes like this.
