Acceptance - we are now a middling side

We will beat Sydney next week on a good track and plenty will look like idiots. Absolute certainties next week.

That was a shocking second half.
Midfield needs a complete overhaul.
Baffled that we persevered with overuse of handball in those conditions in the second half.
What was the message at three quarter time?

The history of GWS at the trade table was on full display, absolutely no excuses, they have bent over another club, always damaged goods being sold as prime cattle. As players Hopper & Taranto are not capable of spearheading the midfield for the next 7 years, I honestly have no idea how we can fill the other glaring gaps either. The strategy was always a good chance to unravel, we were 12th in 2021 yet somehow portrayed as premiership material, those in charge have failed to pay respect to history - on many levels. I'm gutted not because we are losing but because we have assumed success would be instantaneous via the introduction of two inside mids, perhaps the easiest spots to fill on a list. On top of that we are now staring down the barrel of losing a top 10 pick, that will sting for many years to come.
Or chicken little is the alternate view. Give it to round 10 and see if we can sort clearance out.

If we sort clearance out we are top 6 if not top 4 material.

Middling team trending to development team.

I disagree re: Taranto and Hopper.

They can both be fine servants yet and help see us through this transition. Without them our midfield would be utterly bereft.

The mistake was extending the careers of Jack and Cotch. Nankervis is also a liability.

We spent 3 premiums picks trying to sort out the clearances, it's ridiculous that we should even be in some sort of trial mode. The next 4 weeks has the potential to put us totally out of contention. The reality of top 4 is any more than 6 losses and you can pack your bags. Generally speaking, clubs don't win premierships without the double chance, I think it's fair to say we won't be starting favourites over the next month.

This was one of those winnable games that you bank and move on. We moved on without banking it.

How can you possibly deduce that?
We won’t cop another wet day. Adelaide won’t be wet. And we will beat Sydney. Dusty looks enthusiastic. Jack will be back. We may have our best side in for the year.

Graham won’t be playing. Sydney are very good team and we will need to pull something out of a hat

nankervis' height, leap & team mate awareness as a tap ruck is the elephant in the room.

jack & cotch are continually run off....that's no insight - its what happens.

Of course we're in transition. Sonz, 10 games. Juddy 5, Samson 5, Young 4, Hugo 15, MoJu 15, Cumbo 10. Godcus 10, Banks 0, Brown 0.

Dimma knows. That's why he's playing them. Timing might not work this year. Next year, when the Superhunks have 20-40 games under their belts, maybe it does. Jack and Cotch aren't the keys anymore. Change is growth. Growth is painful. It's not this year or bust.

+ Taz and Hop will be better next season after 12 months settling in.

Jack Cotch Grimes and Nank were never going to lead us to a flag this year. That was obvious last year. But what they can do this year is set cultural & training standards , provide on field positioning advice and cool heads to a young brigade that need games. The loss was disappointing but Sonsie was classy, Juddy was more involved- his kicking was off but we know he’s a good kick generally, Ralphsmirh showed some poise,Samson Ryan competed in conditions that did not suit him, Tyler young made some mistakes but also did some good things, even Mansell had some good patches. Gibcus is out of the side, Banks is yet to debut. Taranto and Hopper will steady and improve. They will all be better for this. As others have said, Dimma is playing the long game. If we make finals this year with so many players with < 50 games, that will be huge. We are building for the next wave. Enjoy the ride.

I’m with you but we’ve gotta sort out the centre bounce ruck department ASAP; it’s not working at all.

I read we had 7 players under 25 that's great bit of a shift of opinions now I'm seeing , let's not forget we went all out recruiting Taranto and Hopper and gave up the farm for them to win a flag which we thought we could and maybe we still can that was the objective correct.

Footy really is a game of margins. If we had gotten over Carlton and Bulldogs, then we are 3 of 4 and all is good. However the reality is our margin for error is razor thin and we didn't.

We have a really good list on paper, despite everyone knowing that Jack and Cotch were gone after 2022, let's face it Martin is 80% of his best self now, Prestia is perpetually injured, Shai is enigmatic and not the consistent superstar we have hoped he would be. Taranto and Hopper are welcome but costly additions (we'd be stuffed without them) - but they are a tier below the elite midfielders. That may or may not cost us long term.

If all goes well, we will bring the kids in, not drop our bundle and make finals and go again next year. However the margins are thin and we could just as easily find ourselves out of the eight for a few years as well.

We'd have 2.5 wins this morning if Jack Reiwoldt had played, even with a side playing 25% of a game.

If hes injured or fatigued (by easter?)

Then thats bad luck,

But if it was a predetermined discretionary week off,

Then call me Kane Cornes,

Cause id regard it as arrogant and incompetant
