2024 Training With The Ooze Crew

Nice. Wanna see him as the lead up forward hitting the logos, then doubling back. Leave the goal square to Tom.
Not sure Balta has the tank to do that kind of running. Actually, I am very sure he doesn’t.

Funny player is Balta, the whole is definitely less than the sum of the parts.

He doesn’t have an elite tank but he did get up the ground a bit in the last two games of the season as a forward, took some nice marks on the wings. Prefer him down back but I think he’s got the talent to be a pretty good key forward as well.

Also, I know we’re wanting to bring in a big key forward through trade or free agency over the next few years, but maybe the club sees that King and Cadman (to name a couple) are potentially likely to stay at their respective clubs, so we need to act now in terms of a key forward for the future?

I've been against Noah B moving forward as he's been pretty good down back, but we have depth down there and none up front, so am ok with Yze trialling this. Balta has got the tools, it's the smarts that is in question.

Might need to look at the shot clock on the scoreboard too when kicking for goal.

He is ok
If he is having a bad day, he is delist material.
I would get him super fit and play him as a ruck rover. On the ball.
A Blivass type role

I've said that before. I question if he is fit enough despite his impressive physiche. If he gets fitter I think he can eradicate the brain fades & become a genuine superstar. I hope the footy dept is putting it on him to improve that side of his game.

Yeah, Gibcus opens things up quite a bit. Give it a go but I'm fair from sold. I think he is a top tier back. I would rather trial Gibcus.

And expecting Gibcus to take the monsters in what is really only his second season coming off a major injury is asking way too much imo.

I don’t think Balta is a great one on one defender. Great interceptor but gets beaten too much in one on one aerials for my liking. To that end, I don’t mind us trying him up forward again but overall, from a team perspective, dunno if we’re robbing Peter to pay Paul by doing so.

Bit of a conundrum.

Young for the monsters. Godcus to intercept.

Yep, this is the way. At least we'd be trying something new.

Definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, and expecting a different result. Trying Balta forward (again) meets the definition.

No strong opinion either way on Balta and where he plays. Happy for him to have a whole pre-season learning the role. The prize if it pays off is huge. No stress if he stays back either.

One thing am keen on is to keep Gibcus back in the short term. He's coming off a major injury and hasn't had time to prove himself at AFL level yet. He's played 18 games and got over 12 possessions in a match once. Reckon we're putting too many eggs for our future in his basket. In 2024 anyway.

Let's make it as simple, comfortable and likely as possible for him to build confidence at the level (and his body) in 2024.

Play him 3rd tall (sometimes 2nd) in the backline. All year.

Astbury/Rance/Grimes = Young/Balta/Gibcus.
If they’re trialling Balta forward this season, I’m not sure why they bothered recruiting Mt Kosciuszko. Unless, as is recently typical of our club, they’re going to try to turn him into a defender.
And yes I do know he was a defender as a junior.

Horses for courses could be the way to go and play him where its needed

Jimmy Jess style David Neitz and the player who i always though Balta could become like that started as a defender then become a monster FF - G Train
