You need to be pretty creative to explain why cumbo wasn’t in our best side from r1 given his 22 season. Dimma thinking was fkd up from the start and it didn’t Improve in the 23 campaign
There was something wrong mentally with Cumberland in 2023. We can all speculate what it was but we don’t know that he wasn’t the same player
To his credit he came back after that suns game and earned a recall but it took a long time.

Cumberland was rubbish in every game he played this past season. Proved he wasn’t worthy of playing first up, Dimma was on the money in hindsight.
I just hope he puts his head down and from all accounts, he doing just that and has had a strong pre-season so far. He can sure play the game but he was garbage last season. Too many are still living off his past deeds for mine. He’s mature enough now to know what’s required
I’m hoping he has a great 2024 and plays to his full potential, but I know it ain’t guaranteed based on last seasons output.

Kosy recruited as a backup for Lynch. If Lynch proves his fitness and Naismith is chosen to be the relief ruckman, then Kosy is no certainty for round 1.
Kosy wasn't recruited to be a back-up to Lynch. He's been recruited to play as a 2nd key. Be it down back or forward. Clubs don't give up draft picks to recruit VFL fodder.

Mansell was gifted game after game as he was prepared to chase backsides and provide forward pressure thats what Dimma demanded of his small forward kicking goals was the last option
Cumbo looked confused and out of sorts not being allowed to play his natural game Cumbo would be dropped without hesitation Dimma was not prepared to give him a run of games like some others

one thing for sure is that whatever we say on this forum will have zero effect on what actually happens :ROFLMAO:
I'm not so sure. I called for Daniel Rioli to move half back before it happened and was ridiculed for it. Dimma must have read PRE ;)

The choice to recruit Koschitzke and draft Fowcette or similar, was absolutely necessary and the need to do so possibly goes as far back as our unexpected loss of Coleman-Jones.

Jack, who stayed a year too long, was cooked. And the Lynch injury and the uncertainty about his future, (plus the failure to recruit Himmelburg), meant that some forward prospects had to be found. But Kosy's achievements to date are a little underwhelming and none of my Hawk friends are concerned by the loss. Lets hope he makes it but it is worth remembering that not too many tall forwards who can't secure a position at a bottom 4 club after 5 years, tend to go on and be part of a premiership winning team elsewhere.

Fowcette looks the better prospect to me but that will take time, as it seems will both Miller and Ryan.

Next season depends on players recovering from injury and retuning to top form. Its a big ask.
If we are going to play finals next season, we have to take a chance on playing Noah up forward.
With or without Lynchi imo he is the one other player with the physical presence, hardness and in his case the talent and raw speed, who can provide an avenue to goal.

Gibcus and his fitness a key to Noah being freed up to play such a role and Baker, Bauer, Cumberland and of course Dusty and Bolton, the best of a number of others, to be given the first crack to assist.

Yes it was called a lack of confidence because after a great ‘22 the coach decided an aged veteran in Cotch was a better option up forward. This was trained all preseason!! Epic fail Hardwick.

That’s opinion of course. There may well have been other reasons why he wasn’t in the team and as others mentioned he was also poor when he played.

I am a massive Cumberland fan but there seems to be a lot of people making excuses for him having a poor 2023. Best thing he can do is have a great 2024

I have a theory on Daniel R

He was never the same after injuring his ankle in the 2017 grand final. He seemed to lose some speed and agility, becoming largely ineffective.

However the move to hbf allowed him to run in straight lines at full speed, rediscovering his inate flair and footy iq.

My guess is that as a result of the ankle imjury it is more difficult for him to change direction, a key weapon as a small forward.

We saw a few times this season the ankle flair up, and look like he was cooked. However would come out of the changerooms, presumably after an injection, and resume playing.

Just my take.

Rioli clocked in at 34.8km/h in round 19 2022, faster than anything I could find from his 2017 season. Can’t speak to his change of direction because there is no measure of that, although his repeat sprint numbers are still comparable, if not better than pre/ankle injury.

Maybe like he said, he was just sick of playing small forward under the Hardwick regime.

It is a good debate with some differing views but one thing for sure is that whatever we say on this forum will have zero effect on what actually happens :ROFLMAO:

There is no doubt we need to a small forward who hits the scoreboard.
Hawks got him.(n)

run chase tackle was first, second and third priority. and then, with whatever breath you have left, get front and square, or find space.
be creative? sure if you can, after you've done everything else first
Yep. Simple process of place the oppo defence under as much pressure as possible. Force the mistakes and turnovers to ensure repeat entries back into our forward half and everybody got to pig out with three flags in five years without anyone needing to be a self centered flash Harry.
Plenty of hard work for massive team rewards that took a bunch of rule changes by H.Q. and oppo coaches five years to adjust to and slowly dismantle.

Cumberland hasn't got the mental aptitude too succeed at AFL level. Its a pity as he does have the ability.

Its easy to see that he's using Zips's spell check Maso. I think you can get one from Aldi. :)

Thanks for letting me know so I don't waste my time stalking PRO next week
From memory last year they did a morning session at punt road on the day they left for camp (you may have even reported on it:unsure:). Might need to set up some motion sensors around PRO! 😅
