2024 Training With The Ooze Crew

Hi @Jonesracing82 after me posting after virtually every session I think people will have their own interpretation on how they think we are tracking so i would rather look where we are at now rather than reviewing from the beginning.

Having said that, you would have noticed throughout the pre-season that my posts weren't always glowing as I were frustrated with the number of players going through rehab/conditioning, (some for a decent length of time), thus not really allowing me to get a good look of what our real structure would be, (as an example, defensively Gibcus, Young, Gimes and Bauer absent for long periods).

Maybe after last year the conditioning team have taken a new extra cautious approach?

Are we fitter? I don't know. Whilst there was some positive signs against Melbourne it is only a practice match and it soon became apparent that Melbourne are in a bit of turmoil at the moment.

I were more encouraged how we presented on track today and more interested how we will stack up against the Pies on Tuesday when we have a fuller list at our disposal.

Pluses this pre-season:

Brown :
1st uninterrupted pre, slightly bulked up and elite skills on display, (plays laconic so might still get tagged by some as lazy or not intense enough but i think that would be wrong)
Dusty: Appears to be back in love with the game and his team mates, was speaking to one of the players parents today and they just can't believe how sublime Dusty is even at training.
Dow: Transformational pre, already an Yze favorite and has shone in both the intra club and Dee's hit out, (reduces the need to rush the likes of Prestia back should he, as he invariably will, have injuries).
Balta: The real worry was going to be for somebody to fill the Riewoldt hole. Balta doing ok in the absence of Lynch so far but he will be keen to have Lynch by his side asap. Glad Yze seems adamant that that will be his role and give it time to work, (or not).
Gibcus: Didn't have him last year, fingers crossed he gets a clean run this year, (he may be a bit rusty, but a rusty gate is better than no gate at all).
Mansell: Was having a very good pre and greatly improved, unfortunate timing on his injury.
Hopper: Way!!! fitter, has hardly missed a session, hopefully we get to see why he was the package deal with Taranto.
Marlion: Best pre since he has been at the club and as clean as i have seen him, (i hope he survives his court date).
Bakes: Training solely with the mids and has added some bite, (will it rob Peter to pay Paul?), but worth commenting on his new role.
Shai: After a slow start post ankle surgery he is back to making people look stupid and potentially going to another level?
Sonsie: His 1st proper pre will give him every chance
Graham: Plagued by turf toe and other last year is fit.
Naismith: A very handy inclusion for which you all got a glimpse against Melbourne.
Mcauuliffe: The new kid on the block looks promising.

An apology to
Steely, I said earlier in the pre that he had no AFL traits whatsoever, maybe he does ;) :) , (and after being informed of all the extras he has been doing to improve himself i take back my criticism).

**Most importantly the players are extremely happy with Yze and Newy and there is definitely more of a buzz around the place, (stale no more).

There are players that have done less work than previous seasons a couple that have disappointed too but lets keep it positive shall we.

Cheers

Just to back up my Hopper comment above, this from Yze :clap2 :) :

Hopper was limited to 16 games and didn't reach the same heights due to lingering injury issues, some that were never made public, but Yze views the now fully fit 27-year-old as almost a fresh recruit, following a full summer that hasn't drawn anywhere near as much attention as the previous one.

"Now knowing what he went through with his toe issue and foot issue and ankle, he had so many things going on, so to be able to perform at the level he was, albeit not at the level he wanted to, you could still see he was a dangerous midfielder and a really powerful one. I've only seen the Jacob Hopper from this pre-season and it has been someone who can back up and really show what he is capable of," he said.

"To be fair, going through that whole process of being traded and not being able to perform, there is a lot of pressure on these kids. He knows what the club paid to get him over here. seeing one of his best mates win a best and fairest, things like that weigh on you. I'm adamant that a fit Jacob Hopper is a very quality AFL player. The sky is the limit for him. I can't wait to see what he produces."

Yes full session for Taranto but I have said he has been managed a bit this pre-season despite Ziebell saying Tim had had a fantastic pre and that he was only managed for last game.
Some players need saving from themselves over training, slowing Tim down would be a attempt to have him still going well last 1/3 of season.

Blues have 6 days so not the same
F'n outrageous.

They are certainly looking like they are out to get the RFC.

Lose to the Goldens and the Tigers could find emselves in a flat spin and in early trouble at 0-2 within 6 days if the Blues then turn us over.

Must beat GC its non negotiable.

Training today Friday:

Lynch and Bauer did ALL drills in a 90 minute session.
Nank about 70%

Cumbo, Sonz in rehab, but you couldn't even call it that as Sonz did nothing at all and Cumbo very little.

Seth also not much.

May have been more of a management session?

**Session ended with semi and final of the club's goal kicking competition, in the Miller v Broady semi, between them they kicked 6 points straight  :) before Miller advanced.

Shai kicked 6 goals straight: to dispose of Kmac in semi and then Miller in final.

@caesar I'm pretty sure I read that VFL tigers have a practice match tomorrow at Punt Road v North at 11am, That's a 5-day break since we played the pies. Reckon that's why the session was more management? Cumbo, Sonz etc

Thanks caesar, I was hoping you were going to say Gibcus trained forward and Kosi back.

It feels like you're testing the limits of what we are prepared to believe here.

Where was Shai kicking from?

Was he snapping the ball whilst deep in the forward pocket and after spinning 180 degrees on a 45 degree angle?

I'd believe that more than he was kicking them from directly in front of goal and 40 meters out.
