2024 Training With The Ooze Crew

Good News Training Day Sunday:

In brilliant sunshine a 2 hour training session with good vibes was held in front of family and friends.

In great news
Prestia, Taranto, Lynch and BAUER trained fully, in fact Lynchy was still running laps 15 minutes after other players went inside and I left, (this is in keeping with the stated mini pre-season they are putting him through), I think Lynchy will be putting his hand up for the Carlton game but conditioning staff will have the final say.
Bauer: Played back and looked very good for someone who has had a very restricted pre-season.
Dusty: Looks to be firing and was the third last player to leave the track, instead having some shots on goal and chatting with his good mate Newy.

Lefau: Played on Gibcus when it came to match sim type drills, towards the end of session he had set shot kicking instruction, he doesn't seem to have too much wrong with his action, the ball really thumps off his boot.
Young: Matched up on Lynch.
Steely: Got to the right spots again.
Mansel: Not training but spotted in bare feet and out of moon boot.

Only possible negative? :

Nank: Was not out there at all, Naismith firming for round zero, recruiting could be a masterstroke?

The wrap:

Best session of the summer, ball movement pretty clean and all in good spirits and humour, (no doubt aided by the presence of family and friends and the fact the season proper is just around the corner).

Cheers

This definitely put a spring in my step, great to see all of Lynch, Prestia, Taranto, and Bauer training fully. Thanx Caesar (y)

Good work Caesar. I spoke with Mansell yesterday and he told me the moon boot was coming off today. He is aiming at round 2 or 3 to be back but said it was up to the rehab staff. He is busting to get out there.

Looks like a coupe of young small forwards will get a 3 game patch to cememt their spot before Sonsie and Mansell become available.

We are almost at the starting gates - excitement and anticipation rising by the day.

thanks @caesar for all your reports over summer- great effort and really appreciate your insights.

Great work and a pleasure to read.
Just wondering how Kosy went and who played on him?

It was only 15 min of match sim type work, Kosy fwd but didn't have time to take in all match ups, I were also a bit distracted today talking to someone.

The ability to simultaneously watch training intently, have a conversation and listen to the races should be a non-negotiable IMO. Lift.

Thank you for doing this, Caesar. From the general tone of yourself and others, it just seems to have been a better pre season all over at RFC.

Can you just tell Yze not to seek advice from you while you’re watching training?

great report. Is it possible to give a summary on our pre season as a whole? it does seem like we are better prepared this time around compared to last yr, where we started slow & couldn't run out games etc.

I kind of think he has JR.

Re read last years pre season and it was all doom and gloom (which turned out 100% correct).

You can tell already how much bettter we are training/buying in with a new coach and idea’s, whether it works or not over the season proper we wait and see…but to me it looks/feels sooooo much better than last year.

I’m excited to see what is going to happen. Almost a free hit for us this year.

Hi @Jonesracing82 after me posting after virtually every session I think people will have their own interpretation on how they think we are tracking so i would rather look where we are at now rather than reviewing from the beginning.

Having said that, you would have noticed throughout the pre-season that my posts weren't always glowing as I were frustrated with the number of players going through rehab/conditioning, (some for a decent length of time), thus not really allowing me to get a good look of what our real structure would be, (as an example, defensively Gibcus, Young, Gimes and Bauer absent for long periods).

Maybe after last year the conditioning team have taken a new extra cautious approach?

Are we fitter? I don't know. Whilst there was some positive signs against Melbourne it is only a practice match and it soon became apparent that Melbourne are in a bit of turmoil at the moment.

I were more encouraged how we presented on track today and more interested how we will stack up against the Pies on Tuesday when we have a fuller list at our disposal.

Pluses this pre-season:

Brown :
1st uninterrupted pre, slightly bulked up and elite skills on display, (plays laconic so might still get tagged by some as lazy or not intense enough but i think that would be wrong)
Dusty: Appears to be back in love with the game and his team mates, was speaking to one of the players parents today and they just can't believe how sublime Dusty is even at training.
Dow: Transformational pre, already an Yze favorite and has shone in both the intra club and Dee's hit out, (reduces the need to rush the likes of Prestia back should he, as he invariably will, have injuries).
Balta: The real worry was going to be for somebody to fill the Riewoldt hole. Balta doing ok in the absence of Lynch so far but he will be keen to have Lynch by his side asap. Glad Yze seems adamant that that will be his role and give it time to work, (or not).
Gibcus: Didn't have him last year, fingers crossed he gets a clean run this year, (he may be a bit rusty, but a rusty gate is better than no gate at all).
Mansell: Was having a very good pre and greatly improved, unfortunate timing on his injury.
Hopper: Way!!! fitter, has hardly missed a session, hopefully we get to see why he was the package deal with Taranto.
Marlion: Best pre since he has been at the club and as clean as i have seen him, (i hope he survives his court date).
Bakes: Training solely with the mids and has added some bite, (will it rob Peter to pay Paul?), but worth commenting on his new role.
Shai: After a slow start post ankle surgery he is back to making people look stupid and potentially going to another level?
Sonsie: His 1st proper pre will give him every chance
Graham: Plagued by turf toe and other last year is fit.
Naismith: A very handy inclusion for which you all got a glimpse against Melbourne.
Mcauuliffe: The new kid on the block looks promising.

An apology to
Steely, I said earlier in the pre that he had no AFL traits whatsoever, maybe he does ;) :) , (and after being informed of all the extras he has been doing to improve himself i take back my criticism).

**Most importantly the players are extremely happy with Yze and Newy and there is definitely more of a buzz around the place, (stale no more).

There are players that have done less work than previous seasons a couple that have disappointed too but lets keep it positive shall we.

Cheers

Caesar. Thanks for all your detailed reporting and analysis over the preseason. It sure does help us who can't get to training get a feel for the progress. I have a feeling that Steely is going to be this seasons surprise package!

Thx very much for that. "review" probably not the right word to use, more "synopsis" which is what u delivered in spades. Thx very much for keeping us updated over summer, very much appreciated.

Did you end up getting tickets @TigerPunk?

I've been having more than the usual trouble on the Ticketmaster site.
I select a ticket, put my payment details in, then I can't get any further because I get an error message comes up that says "Oops! Secure Ticket selection is required"
The problem is, there is nowhere on the page to select a Secure Ticket or not.
I went through the whole process several times to make sure I wasn't missing it.

Emailed Ticketmaster (they don't put a phone number up on their Contact Us page) and they say to use Google Chrome, and to make sure I've selected a Secure Ticket or not on the Checkout Page.

How the *smile* can I get to the Checkout page when the error is on the Payment page? How *smile* is their site? Do they actually want to sell tickets?
All this effort for what is basically a $10 donation to FoodBank
They are a disgrace.
I have to calm down now before I reply again...

Hope you've had better luck.
Hi larabee.. Yep I managed to get tickets using the app on my phone.. Don't know whats going on with the website!
