2024 Training With The Ooze Crew

How was McAuliffe yesterday? Get much of the footy?

Was unfortunate for him, as wigglyworm says he only played part of the 4th quarter and then 5-7 with the VFL boys, so I don't think he's in the mix for Round 0. Plus whilst in that 5-7 period was regularly manned up on Oliver. Sure he'd have learnt plenty from him, but that meant he was always going to struggle to stand out unfortunately.

Looked like he was only on for about 20 minutes. Didnt do much outside of stick a tackle on Petracca

Mcauliffe played in guernsey number 28 in 4th qtr and then jumper 21 for the 5th to 7th which may have confused some of the pundits, (it did me for a while), because he wasn't prominent in those quarters and when he did get a kick or did something good the rambling self-obsorbed commentators failed to call player names and actual play on a regular basis

Good call I didnt notice him in the VFL quarters but the Commentary really dropped off for those last few quarters. Most of the time they werent calling the players names. I was interested to see if Kaleb Smith would do well and I heard his name occasionally but after the ball had left the area.

Kaleb did a few good things yesterday, I bumped into his parents at training on Friday who were over from WA, although they would have preferred he stay in WA they couldn't be happier that the alternative was to be drafted by Richmond, they have nothing but praise for how RFC have looked after him and the family.

I just hope he gets a good run at it injury wise this year.

Nothing worse than a junior not having a chance at the level due to constant injuries.

Shows promise though not entirely convinced myself yet - the most promising young KPF in the VFL IMO is Tyler Sellers from North, surprised he wasn't picked up or at least given a train-on chance, especially by North themselves considering their own development coach Tom Lynch (the other one obviously) rates him very highly.

I reckon we're underrating Mansell to pigeon-hole him as a pressure forward.

Post 2020, I've got no time for the pressure forward. Too easy to kick around. But, that doesn't mean you don't need your forwards to pressure, and run.

But Mansell has improved as a footballer over the last 18 months. Not a pressure forward, a footballer. He was scrappy when he started, but he's showed that he can also create, hit the target, fill space, and play.

Footballers who can run and hurt are the prototype. Mansell's got himself to that level. It's a shame he was hurt this morning. I imagine he was pencilled in to round 1.

Or round zero, or round -i or whatever the *smile*.
My concern with Mansell is that he doesn’t have the foundational skill of roving the pack to the level required, that anticipation of where the ball is going to spill, that the best small forwards have.

That’s becoming a recurrent theme as to how we are looking after the guys drafted to the Club. While the lure from home would always remain strong we seem to be going ok at keeping interstate players at the Club. To date.

They must be angling for a gig on Ch7.

I see him a little more as a high forward. Running out to support the wings, make space for the talls, follow a running defender, but turn and get the ball back inside 50, or run hard through the 50 as an option.

Not necessarily the crumbing forward type.

Really impressed with Sonsie in that role yesterday

Mansell has medium grade syndesmosis, just got announced. Will miss early round or two but still being assessed. We have seen this before of course

Might’ve been a bit of a fluke but steely crumbed a beauty off the pack yesterday. Apart from Shai we’ve lacked in that area the last few years. Juddy and Coulthard are two I could see doing that this year and potentially Steely and Campbell but will need to see more of them. Haven’t seen it much in Maurice. Juddy can play more of that high half forward role as well, and could get a look in early with Sonsie’s suspension

We also lost an elite pack crumber in Shedda

Assuming for the moment Lefau makes the list and goes on to do well and demand selection. And assuming Lynch regains full fitness, where do they all fit?
Well he's made the list, now it's simply a matter of form and fitness over the course of the year for a few big forwards. I was more impressed with Lefau's efforts during the game than I was with Koshitsme's so already there's a possible situation during the year.

Do we have any update on Liam Fawcett? Pretty sure he didn't take part in the scratch match.

I have to say that if it wasn't for the likes of @caesar (and his Minions):ROFLMAO: I'd have no idea as to the state of health of most of the list.
Yes the media will tell us Dusty is being rested and Tom's progressed to running/kicking but there is bugger all on the club's website.

It's disgraceful really.
